I thought like you. I figured he was the "best" -- and he was for nearly the whole first half (as everyone who watched knows).
But, he played like a beginner starting at the end of the first half (bad decision, did not realize he had no time outs) -- cost 3 points -- that would have been enough.
He didn't get better.

I'm not aware of a Time Out counter -- except if the Stadium staff puts it on the Giant TV screen occasionally.
Of course, the Coaches on Mahomes' headset (or at the 2:00 minute break on the sideline) should have quickly mentioned key points with Mahomes -- such as you have no time outs.
The confusion was no doubt due to the "time out" that accidentally happened during a Kansas "play challenge" earlier in the game. Mahomes (perhaps coaches too) may have counted that as "no" time out. But. with 13 seconds left, they are paid to be aware (e.g. Mahomes gets over $40,000,000 a year).
Later in the game, instead of "taking what they give you" (as he did in the first half), Mahomes "went for the big play" too often -- and didn't get it -- stalled drives. All rookie stuff. I couldn't believe it was happening over and over.
Edit: I just read a Mahomes interview where he "volunteered" that he did what I just wrote -- he tried for the big plays instead of taking the little ones (my summary words). He said that play at the end of the half was due to him over-trying for the TD instead of throwing the ball away immediately per the play call. The coaches said they shouldn't have called that play.

I put $100 on Kansas City cos their quarterback is unstoppable and unbeatable.
Seems that isn't so.Their five losses coming in to this game might have been a clue. As for the timeouts... I'm sure it is displayed somewhere around Arrowhead. It might be on the scoreboard, or it might be in one of the deck facades. Scoreboards though are no longer like they used to be. And these digital scoreboards continually switch between the score, statistics, "Get Louder" encouragement and that sort of thing, so is it possible that it is only displayed some of the time?. I would think it is displayed in a facade like the play clock is.
No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!

I did not want to write another thread. It's football time. First game Thursday. How do you suspend the owner for 6 games? He can't be at the stadium? He can't be on the sideline? How? So football teams not allowed to have contacts with players of other teams when a game is not on? Many players and owners and coach are friends off the field from being together on another team or from college, etc. They can't call each other or get together for drinks or Sunday Barbeque when there are no games on? https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/02/us/nfl-miami-dolphins-suspend/index.html

My thought is -- with gambling being prevalent, "in the open", and advertised on TV, -- there will be now be cheating to shave points in one direction or another in some (not all) games.
Might be a player, official, or play-caller making the "inappropriate" play or call. That person will be paid-off "under the table". Nominally legitimate gamblers will "pay the price".
Decades ago, a famous Baseball Player made a truly harmless small bet on a game he had nothing to do with. Spent time in confinement. Times have changed in the USA.

The sport took a knee on me and my thumb took a next channel on it. I miss it less than I expected.
The road less traveled is filled with fewer needy people.

There has always been cheating by players and refs in sports. I remember when "bookies" would get arrested for doing small time betting. I think it was actually part of what the old "vice squads" would go after. The "mob" controlled most of it, so it was illegal. Not because it was an immoral crime, but because the IRS didn't get their cut. Now that all gambling is controlled by the "right people" and they give the IRS their cut, gambling is everywhere.

The sport took a knee on me and my thumb took a next channel on it. I miss it less than I expected. Amen. We only watch because we have a home team (Cleveland Browns). Or to pass some time. Now with our home team's name in the mud for having stupidly cut a very good quarterback (but injured all last year) to hire a very expensive one in trouble with the league (possible one year suspension still being litigated), we're less interested. Stupidity doesn't sell very well with me.

I found the punishment for the Dolphins team owner 6 games suspension: Owner Ross has been suspended through October 17, 2022. During this period, he may not be present at the Dolphins' facility and may not represent the club at any team or NFL event. He may not attend any League meeting prior to the Annual Meeting in 2023, is removed from all League committees indefinitely, and will be fined $1.5 million.
Beal, the Dolphins vice president and partner, may not attend any League meeting for the remainder of the 2022 season and was fined $500,000. There was the Hall of Fame game last night and I didn't watch it. It doesn't mean anything.

Except to the NFL for the advertising dollars it generates.

It was Las Vegas Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars. Are the Raiders the NFL orphans black sheep child? They change city more often than they go to playoffs. LOL! Yes, the Raiders have stunk for a long time but so have other teams like my Dolphins!
