Hey guys!

We improved TFXplorer to include TAW-based F-22 physics, so you may now consider it a Total Air War clone – compatible to EF2000, ADF, and TAW.

We’re just a small team of hobbyists, so you can not yet do more than fly around, but it’s steadily improving. One highlight is flying the F-22 with TAW flight model and EF-2000 graphics through one of EF-2000’s hidden levels, like Libya.

It’s not a standalone game – it requires the original Super EF2000/ADF/TAW being installed.

The download, some screenshots, instructions, and the changelog can be found in our Combatsim thread.

Here, I want to invite you to check it out, discuss, report bugs, request the next features!

Great for doing things like this:

Mike, I really need to applaud your amazing work of porting EF2000’s assets to TAW’s format! notworthy Looks absolutely perfect …

… here’s the video of me doing refuel training on civilian airplanes biggrin They’re tricky to find in the current build, because we don’t have radar yet … but one can find them via SmartView. (You need to view it on YouTube for full-HD fullscreen mode …)

Another video: The new contrail rendering system. It’s just a prototype, but it adds a lot to the scenery.

Watch in HD on YouTube. Sorry for the camera work – I’m no good at flying and directing at the same time biggrin

It always annoyed me that TAW’s landing gear cannot break. Here I am testing the improved version, where struts break with too much stress:

We need to add proper sound effects and the belly landing physics deserve a full rewrite, but for now that’s enough. It’ll be in the next update; we hope to release it in the upcoming weeks.

Some time has passed, so here is a small update with me chasing another F-22:

Many things are still missing, but on the other hand, you can also see many components are already in the right place: collision detection with my bullets works, contrails are properly generated, civil planes follow their paths.

I even had to add a small weather simulation to make the contrails work (you can see temperature and humidity changing with altitude in the bottom-left corner, but it also changes with daytime).

Awesome work Krycztij. contrails looks fantastic,I do not believe it looks like this in a 20-year game.
maybe similar can be added to the missiles?
you do all this in source code or without?
intercepting looks great also smile will it be possible to integrate all this with taw reloaded?

Thank you!

Yes, I’m planning to do the same for missiles. And for smoke. I’ve just completed some tests on wingtip vortices as well.

TFXplorer is programmed entirely by our team, but we use as much data from ADF/TAW as we can. You copy the program to the ADF/TAW directory, and you’re good to go. (The above contrails are not yet in the public download, though.)

With "taw reloaded", do you mean TAW 2.0? If so, yes of course smile Our thread has some snapshots of TFXplorer on TAW 2.0. It even works with some versions of EF2000.

Is still tech demo without working campaign yes?
I think it will improve the game a lot change the texture of the EXPLOSION for the better.Good 128x128 texture it's probably not much work.

great that you resurrect old simulators , I have a very big sentiment for ef2000 and taw I spent the most time with them in my youth smile

Yes, there is no A.I. or campaign system yet. I agree it’s not much fun at the moment smile But we’re working hard to make it a complete game.

Changing the explosion texture is easy, but the technical foundation has more priority now. E.g. we want different kinds of explosions for different parts of the plane, and for different materials, but the material system needs to be finished first …

So, the CSim forum closed yesterday (after 25 years) frown This was quite a problem for me, since most of TFXplorer’s development happened there.

There is, however
- a new CSim Discord (https://discord.gg/7EZAQQ3afJ)
- an Air Dominance Project Discord for anything regarding TAW 2.0 and EF2000 Reloaded (https://discord.gg/P6WbAHCGXW)
- and I’ve set up a new forum for TFXplorer and those more complex EF2000/ADF/TAW topics that are hard to discuss over Discord (http://simforums.krishty.com/).

Just so you all know.

Its lame to see everything going to discord. I only have discord for some file updates, I do not waste time talking there so its useless to many people, I use steam if i want to talk or skype which is rare. Its sad to see so many places trying to force discord on people, even steam game developers in some cases seem to think you need to check discord for updates which is BS.

Discord has its clear advantages in the fast picture and file posting as well as voice channels combined with screen sharing. But it is only productive and effective in close groups focused on some specific subject matter which all participants are interested and familiar with. I have been using it for more than a year with good results. Good until the time when more people joined and things become polluted with BS and rubbish. So it is no good anymore what worse perhaps even time killer cause you still habitually go through all those increased post volumes looking for some substance, but more often find none.

Amen to that. A forum with a Discord 'side channel' might be the best of two worlds.

A few updates …

Two F-22 compete for their place at the 747’s center of gravity. This is a test of the new AI systems, and especially of their ability for air refueling. I don’t have any refuelers yet, so I just programmed them to fly to the COG of the nearest civilian plane smile
[Linked Image]

I was fine-tuning the flight model and screwed up roll response. The plane started spinning so fast that not even the wingtip vortices could keep up!

Nice! From the days when Boeing made planes tough enough to survive having another plane poke through the tailplane. biggrin
