EAW 1.2 has MNU driven single mission aircraft selection screens which is a PITA for modders. The text, its format and its position is set in the mnu file which also references the picture to be used.
The US version only displays the two P38s, the two P47s and the two P51s.
The UK one only displays the Hurricane, the three Spits, the Typhoon and the Tempest.
The German one displays the three 109s, the two 110s, the two 190s and the 262.

When 1.28 was released there were 1000s of mods available so I came up with a more flexible system. There are only two screens, Allied and Axis. There is no MNU file.
The exe is programmed to read the aircraft data and display the name of the aircraft on the appropriate selection screen if the aircraft is flyable. People can fly interdiction missions in a Stuka, or escort missions in a Mossie.

What I am getting to is that there is a setting in the "eaw.ini" file for 1.28 to 1.28F that determines which of the two systems is used.
If "OldStyle=0" the new two screen system which displays the flyable aircraft is used.
If "OldStyle=1" the old three screen system which displays the aircraft listed in the appropriate MNU file is used.

Here is a hex-dump of the default "PicplnA.mnu" file

You can see picture that will be loaded and the text that will be displayed.
The text could be edited, but the new words must be exactly the same lengths as the original ones, otherwise you will get a CTD when the exe tries to read it.

The beauty of the newer system is that the modder does not need to make a MNU file. They can be very tricky to make, and they are restricted to certain slots.
1.29 and the later exes (UAW130-UAW160) do not use the old system.
