I only recently upgraded to Windows 10 after about ten years with Windows 7. The other day I went to play a DVD only to find that Windows would not play it at all. I just recently did a search and apparently Windows 10 did not come with DVD playing software? Can anyone recommend a free DVD player software for Windows 10? Its been my experience that with third party software they often try to sneak in bloatware or the simultaneous installation of some other software you didn't ask for as well as many third party programs seem to be designed with built-in online internet features. I would prefer a simple player that does not try to connect to the internet to update itself or that has internet links or internet features within the player itself if there exists such a thing. I also don't want to pick something that tries to install other non-related software/bloatware. Thanks for any suggestions offered.

We watch a lot of European DVDs (region 2). Our "American" (region 1) player won't play them.

I bought a cheap region 2 player -- but, it does not work with every disk. So, we use our old standby VLC media player. Its a completely free and free-to-use download. It does region 2 quite well for us. Also plays region 1 (America). Probably plays other regions also. Plays videos you record, etc. etc -- just about anything.

One needs a DVD or BlueRay drive on one's PC or HTPC or equal for DVD movies. It can play movie files (no DVD drive required) -- if you can download them onto your PC.

Here's the address for the free download.

It has several neat features -- besides simple playing of movies, etc. -- slow motion, automatically replay a scene over and over, etc. It can play most anything you have. For years we've used it to study videos of Professional Dancers (a hobby is Championship Ballroom Dancing).

As you download for the first time, it may ask if you want other software too. Just skip those. Once installed, it informs you if there is a new version. You do not have to accept it -- we do accept it -- no issues.

Hope this helps.
