I watched "The Duelists" for the first time. I really enjoyed it. It has some great set pieces as well as music. The sword fighting was pretty fantastic though I'm no expert. There was also an underlying humor with the whole idea that the reason behind the one officer's claim of violated honor was lost to him somewhere along the way. He just knew he had to satisfy his honor with the other officer who had to put up with the lingering threat and irritation of the offended party. I also enjoyed Harvey Keitel's acting in this. His character is sort of loud and proud and quite passionate about the way he sees things. I can't say I would enjoy many of the movies he makes but I liked his work in this and also in the movie Cop Land which is another good movie. There was also a lot of well written dialogue in the movie. Its one I'll definitely enjoy seeing again. I wonder what was going through Keitel's character's mind at the end of the movie. You would think that nearly loosing his head and surviving Napoleon's military conquests, especially in wintery Russia would have calmed him down after all those years. If anyone else has seen this, what do you think his thoughts were at the end? Was he finally resigned to make peace in his heart over the matter? Was he still stubbornly holding onto the feud and annoyed he had been bested? I never read the book so maybe I should add that one to the list.

I also have not read the book by Joseph Conrad but I really should. It's one of those books that has been on my reading list for a long time. I think it's quite apparent at the end that Feraud is still restless and upset about being beaten. He is the sort of man who thrives on conflict so between the Napoleonic Wars being over and his duel being over with D'Hubert, I can easily picture him dying of alcoholism at some pub a few months down the road. D'Hubert though is a completely different kind of man and you can just see how desperate he is to settle down with his wife and live a relatively quiet life.
if you ever have the chance listen to Ridley's commentary on the DVD. He has a lot of fascinating info to share.
“Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.”
Thanks Panzer. I think my copy may have the commentary or extras on it. Knowing how his character and personality was throughout the whole movie I tend to think you are correct about his feelings. Keitel's character, even after all he's been through still kind of has this annoyed look about as though his wheels are already spinning, contemplating on how he might arrange another duel encounter. Its fun to speculate on the other hand though that perhaps he's thinking about the fact that his "adversary" was never really someone who stepped on his honor in any way and not only that, he freed him from prison and a death sentence when he could have easily ignored that bit of information he learned of Feraud. As it stands, D'Hubert originally was simply under orders to retrieve Feraud because of his earlier encounter with a certain governor's nephew. I think you're probably right though. Feraud, at least in the movie seems to be a fairly confrontational man always looking for as you say some sort of conflict. Its a pretty entertaining character study.
In a similar setting, I wholeheartedly recommend Les Misérables from 1998 with Liam Neeson. I've always really liked that film. He and Geoffrey Rush are just excellent. Rush's character you can almost empathize with at times. Very well acted by those two.

Might have to watch Justified again. The perfect show, in my opinion. Timothy Olyphant is über-cool as Raylan Givens, but Walton Goggins as Boyd Crowder steals every scene he’s in!
I love WG in The Shield.
The Shield is excellent.

.
Since you enjoyed "The Duellists", I would highly recommend "Barry Lyndon". You will see the aesthetic similarities right away.

a 100 lbs girl can beat dozen and dozen of men who are bigger than her and used to constantly fighting. Set in the middle ages, those men are wearing armor and carrying long swords and they get beat by this little lady with no muscle and stamina regiment training.
In one scene she was almost out of breath and close to falling to her death while hanging by both hands outside the tower off the ledge of an open window. She couldn't stand after barely pulling herself up and dragging her tired body back inside. Next she is fighting dozens of armed men coming at her from left and right and even dead weight picking them up to slide under them to avoid their swords.
Also the scenes where she is telling her father the King how she is oppressed, she is a woman who should choose her own destiny, Men should not dictate to women who to marry, I would think women back in the middle ages didn't think like that especially women such as her, born into the family of a King, she would be trained from birth to be ready to wed any men her parents chose for her and to be servant toward all men and not to have any thoughts of independence. Not wanting to sound like a male pig but those were different times in the middle ages.

Just about to start Justified tonight - watched one episode years ago and wasn't sure - worth a retry.
Give it a go. The first few episodes are «villain of the week» sort of, but the last half of the first season is where the story really kicks off. The finale of season 1 is one of my favourite TV episodes of all time.
In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!
In Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope they are 19 years old (GOOGLE) .
9 years. Only 9 years between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Star Wars A New Hope.
If what is in Obi-Wan Kenobi is correct, then these 2 scenes are wrong.
If these 2 scenes are correct (I DIG DEEP for them, they were not easy to find), then what is in Obi-Wan Kenobi is BULL !!
I choose the 2nd option and I trust Lucas before I trust Disney.
So in conclusion, Disney is making up their own poop and destroying everything.

They bought the SW property from Lucas so they can do pretty much anything they want. Their only financial dud so far with the franchise has been "Solo" so overall it's been a great investment for Disney.

Disney's wokeness is what will hold them back.

That is certainly a possibility if they decide to go more extreme with the wokeness but so far it hasn't hurt their bottom line.

"Solo" was the best of the Disney Star Wars movies, too, by far.

I thought it was pretty good and the actor who played Lando did a great job but for whatever reason, the fans didn't show up in the same huge numbers that they did for the other SW movies. Disney also had to end up over-spending on the movie since the original directors were fired and replaced by Ron Howard.

I liked it as well. Rogue One was good too, was that Disney?

Yes. All SW movies since "The Force Awakens" in 2015 have been Disney.

This is why Hitler lost the war. He fired or shot all his best generals or he didn't listen to them: constantly saying he was so great in WW1 when he was just a dumb corporal or was he even a corporal? Is the part about himself holding the rank of corporal also a lie?
Did Hitler experience any combat in WW1 ? Did he actually fight in the trenches, assault the enemy lines while under machine guns, artillery and chemical weapons bombardment? Get into close hand to hand combat with Allied soldiers?
Hitler's biggest enemy during World War II was not the Russians or the Allies, it was himself.
