I'm hyper-critical about announcing teams in the sports I watch, and I watch a lot of sports, and especially racing of course.
There's no doubt that a race with no yapping is preferable over the worst of these broadcast teams, but in the main I prefer a good team and hearing what they have to say. The commentary adds to the experience and informs the viewer beyond what can be seen. The pit reporter segments give good insight. If the team have Australian or British accents all the better
At the start of this F1 season I subscribed to the F1TV Pro service and I have to say it's been awesome. It has vastly improved my viewing experience in Formula 1. I can isolate and watch any in-car camera and team radio, which is fantastic for me. In this, all I hear is that radio, no broadcast commentary. The archive contains past races going back for years and I can watch those races in the same way. Of course it's only for F1, but I'm a huge fan and it's been a great addition for me. And for folks who want audio with no commentary it's perfect.
