As in the title. I’m flying a BE2c with the gunner sitting right in front of me. As he always stands, it makes it impossible to look right in front of me when landing. Is there any way to make him sit down?

Try the "V" key. I think that removes the cockpit so you should be able to see in front of you. Very unrealistic, but at least it will get you down in one piece!

I'd like that too, tho ideally we'd also need code for him to get up and man the gun when he sees a threat (not just is ordered to).

I'd happily settle for an 'observer sit/stand' toggle key- for ALL two-seaters, for increased realism's sake. Preferably with some animation, but an 'instant switch' would be acceptable and better than nothing. I'd then make it a habit of deciding when to wake up and stand down the observer during each flight, eg after the 'circle up' waypoint or on clearing the shelled area on the way home. In between, I could take a chance on sitting him down so I could see better for the task in hand - or simulate him being busy on those A/C in which he operated the camera or radio...

...then 'Get that gun going before it's hanging up in a Hun mess!' if the enemy shows up.

In the meantime I use TrackIR (thanks Blade_meister!) to move the viewpoint to the side; there are also keyboard commands to do that.

Look to the side lad when landing. It's not a Cessna.

hmm rise of flight had a handy solution,

draw pilot pistol, shoot observer. wait for dead body to despawn

Ive had no problems landing with him standing, chalk it up to skilled flying maybe. I don't even adjust my view, I just judge the ground on approach from looking down to the side and landing as usual as if he was not there.

I do as 33Lima said ... I use TrackIR to lean my head to the side as I imagine a real pilot would do.

It may be possible if OBD would be willing to incorporate a similar functionality to what the OP is requesting ...

For example, assign a key to toggle between inactive/active observer. Inactive Observer will change him into a sitting position and no longer use the weapon. So, the observer would need to be "ordered" by the pilot to sit and stand.

OBD have done much more complex coding (e.g. recon wars), so I wouldn't imagine this to be too complicated for them. Maybe OBD can "re-use" the sitting observer model to switch between sitting and standing.

... Although, it would be a bonus if they could code the observer to "automatically" stand if he sees a threat.

We have looked at this before of course, and it may be possible in the future, we shall see. There's more to it than just bunging a bit of code in. This is a wish list item.
They already do things like recentre the gun when enemies disengage.

Trackir etc helps a lot as others say above.

I agree with 33 L and 77 scout look to the side an easy fix. On the other side, If the gunner sat down wouldn't the gun swing free giving the old Bonk and head bash ?

The observer just uses his mouse scroll wheel and the gun disappears into his weapon inventory...
