AMD Radeon RX 6000 series just 5% above MSRP on average, NVIDIA RTX 30 at 24%

The latest Newegg GPU price report from HardwareUnboxed confirms AMD Radeon RX 6000 are indeed cheaper than NVIDIA RTX 30 series.

As noted yesterday, NVIDIA clearly has a problem with mid-tier to low-end GPUs. The rapidly declining price for GPUs is now forcing NVIDIA to launch a new model called GTX 1630.

GeForce RTX 40 series are just 2 months away, assuming that the rumors are true.

GPU prices are dropping partly because Cryptocurrency is "crashing" down. For Bitcoin, its the old classic double high peak that leads to a crash into the basement.

The "basement" for Bitcoin is literally zero $$ because Bitcoin generates no value -- its only worth what folks are willing to pay. We'll see where the basement truly is, eventually.

Intel XeSS Delayed? Don’t Worry, AMD’s FSR 2.0 Is Here To Save The Day! Intel Graphics Work Well With With Both FSR 1.0 & FSR 2.0

Improving on graphics is one thing, but with its open-source capability and providing better results on older technology, it [FSR 2.0] is a significant focus right now.

If you are running an upscaled 4K resolution, the company [AMD] prefers the Radeon RX 6000 series graphics processors. When lowering the resolution to 1440p, AMD suggests the RX 5000 and RX Vega series graphics cards. And, for the standard 1080p upscaling, the company recommends their Radeon RX 590 or comparable graphics cards.

AMD demonstrates Ryzen 7000 Zen4 CPU reaching 5.5 GHz while gaming

AMD already showcased its Ryzen 7000 CPU at CES 2022 running all-core 5 GHz, thus [5.5 GHz] for a single core wouldn’t be completely surprising, yet it’s even higher than rumored.

Next-gen AM5 CPUs operate within 65W to 170W power range.

AMD Ryzen 7000 series officially launch ‘this fall’. The new CPU series will require entirely new motherboards based on 600-series chipsets.

AMD’s Robert Hallock & Frank Azor Talk AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs & AM5 Platform Features: 170W Socket Power Limits, 5.5 GHz Stock Clock Speeds, Smart Access Storage & More

AMD Ryzen 7000 5.5 GHz CPU Demo Was On Stock Spec, No Overclocking Or Premium Components Used

Robert states that in the respective game demo, they saw most of the threads clocking up to 5.5 GHz (that's 32 threads for the prototype that was used). The 16-core Ryzen 7000 prototype was produced around Late April or Early May so AMD could still squeeze more headroom out of this chip if they want to or just let overclockers do the job.

Engineering prototype sample 5.5GHz standard stock clocks on 16 cores and 170W maximum is a competitive frequency. The issues will be the final IPC (Instructions Per Clock) increase (vs 5000 series) and MSRP on the final release versions of the CPUs.

AMD-Powered Supercomputer is The First to Break The Exascale Barrier

The Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has finally fired up its Frontier supercomputer. The AMD-powered system has been under construction for over three years, and just had its first test results submitted to the Top500 list of the world’s fastest supercomputers. Frontier took the number one spot in the newest rankings, and became the first supercomputer to crack the exascale barrier in the process. It delivered 1.1 Exaflops/s of performance in the High-Performance Linpack test, which is over a quintillion calculations per second. “Flops” or “FLOPS” are Floating Point Operations per Second, a measure of compute capability.

Frontier dethroned Japan’s ARM A64X Fugaku system, which has held the top spot the past two years. That system is only capable of 442 Petaflop/s of performance, which means Frontier is more than twice as powerful. It’s such a beast that it’s faster than the next seven supercomputers in the list combined.

It has a total of 8,730,112 CPU cores, and features over 90 miles of cabling to connect everything. Data transfer is handled by Gigabit Ethernet. The system is not only the most powerful, it’s also the most efficient as well. It also snagged the top spot on the Green500 list, which measures energy use and efficiency of commercially available supercomputers.

The rankings are announced twice a year, and Frontier joins other AMD-powered computers at the top of the lists. AMD CPUs power five of the top ten supercomputers, and eight of the top ten most efficient. It also claims 94 systems in the top 500,

Intel Laptop GPUs are being held back by mediocre drivers -- it is said.

Intel’s High-End Arc A730M GPU Is Barely Faster Than An NVIDIA RTX 3050 In Gaming, BETA Drivers Won’t Start Some Games in DX12 Either

the first performance benchmarks of Intel's Arc A730M GPU .. showed comparable performance to an NVIDIA RTX 3070. However, when it comes to actual gaming results, the performance seems to be barely faster than the RTX 3050.

the Intel Graphics software division has lagged behind severely versus the team that is designing the actual hardware. The hardware team has had GPUs up & running since the previous year but the software team has yet to release a driver that is fully tuned to unlock Arc's true potential.

What makes this worse is the fact that the RTX 3050 Mobile is an entry-level solution while the Arc A730M GPU will be aimed at high-end gaming laptops. We don't really see the 'high-end' action in these benchmarks though.

AMD RDNA/CDNA graphics roadmap unveiled, RDNA3 has over 50% better performance per watt, RDNA4 by 2024

AMD RDNA3 confirmed with 5 nm process and chiplet design

AMD RDNA3 architecture will offer over 50% better performance per watt over RDNA2, which the company already declares as more efficient than NVIDIA consumer Ampere GPU architecture (by comparing RX 6950XT to RTX 3090 Ti).

AMD RDNA3 will launch with Navi 3X GPUs later this year

AMD confirmed its RDNA4 architecture will use a more advanced node. AMD is not mentioning the process node for RDNA4 GPUS probably to obfuscate the details on purpose. The architecture should be introduced by 2024

We have an update on upcoming GeForce GTX 1630 and RTX 40 series launch as confirmed by multiple sources now.

According to the latest information, the launch has indeed been delayed by a month for RTX 4090 from August to September, RTX 4080 to October and RTX 4070 to November. Importantly, this does not rule out a possible announcement sooner.

As mentioned before, those dates are not a final target. Things are rapidly changing on the GPU market and the incentive now is to sell as many RTX 30 graphics cards as possible before RTX 40 is available. Therefore, AIBs now expect a price cut on RTX 30 series,

Regarding Cryptocurrency: Multiple articles and charts indicate cryptocurrencies continue to lose value rapidly Some lesser known ones have nearly zeroed out. Some designed to not lose value have lost most (or nearly all) of their value.

Bottom line: At least for the near future, cryptocurrency mining will not pay well. Thus, the mining effect is not a large impact on GPU prices -- for now, at least.

Nonetheless, the new GPUs will start to release in early fall (by today's estimates). The most expensive versions will probably be first out. Some imagine that the GPU manufacturers will "take advantage" of people being used to high prices -- and overcharge for the first releases.

We'll see.

My Gigabyte gaming RX 6900 XT is currently selling on Newegg for $850 (after rebates). I paid $950 a few weeks back. Reference model MSRP is $1000.

The new RX 7000 series seems due in 3 to 5 months. Its rumored to be twice as fast as the RX 6000 series. Hopefully, it won't be twice as expensive. I do expect an MSRP above $1000 for the top version.

An old April 2022 article describing Unreal Engine 5. It will "change the game" and maybe give us a good reason to buy a new GPU. Its already being used for new versions of "classic games" to be released over the next few years.

Basically, it allows near photo-realism and extreme world detail to be done easily -- so, it will appear in more games.

Quote
Inside Epic's Unreal Engine 5—and What It Means for the Future of Gaming, Movies, and the Metaverse

The company promises that the new updates to Unreal Engine 5 will make it the bedrock for the next generation of Web 3 developments—from metaverse experiences to movies, and of course, video games.

Unreal Engine is the second-most widely used video game engine, trailing only Unity, and is known for its depth of features and visual quality. Unreal Engine 5 augments those strengths, giving its users hyper-intricate 3D detail, facial realism, and large-scale world building.

But top developers at Epic Games and outside of the organization argue that UE5’s biggest impact is not on the biggest studios, but rather smaller, independent developers who can now make high-quality games for much lower costs.... UE5 is free to download and use, with Epic taking a 5% cut on products created with it only after they earn over $1 million in gross revenue.

“We want to allow anyone to make great-looking stuff and take the drudgery out,” Libreri tells TIME. “Nobody should have to make a chair or a rock at this point: we want people to focus on what is truly important, like great gameplay and great artistry.”

It's now 'more cost-effective to turn off the mining rig and buy Ethereum'

Cryptoslate has highlighted the fact that the falling Ethereum price, combined with increasing energy prices, has made it unprofitable to mine the cryptocurrency for the first time since 2020. Basically, you simply won't make money at the current price of Ethereum in most US states given the price of electricity.

This "crypto winter" could be perfectly timed for the release of the next-gen AMD and Nvidia cards; unless they're really good at mining of course. Or that results in a glut of second-hand GPUs on the market, leaving a bunch of unsold current-gen stock on the shelves, and the new cards get delayed.

GPU prices are tumbling. Its the story they're covering now.

Below MSRP and Only Getting Cheaper: The GPU Deluge Begins

With the current profitability of RTX 3080 mining hovering around $0.85 per day (after power costs), even hardcore miners are ready to throw in the towel and see what remaining value they can get out of their cards. Wannabe miners would still be looking at about a year and a half to break even

AMD's GPUs still offer better overall value, if you compare performance using our GPU benchmarks hierarchy. You do give up some ray tracing performance and DLSS support, but if you're looking at apples-to-apples comparisons the RX 6900 XT matches up well against the RTX 3080 Ti and costs significantly less. The same goes for the RX 6600 XT and the RTX 3060. Nearly every AMD GPU now sells for less than MSRP, except for the RX 6800 XT and RX 6800.

I grabbed both my RX6500XT and my RX6900XT a few moments too soon. Win a few, lose the rest. oops
