Sail ho ! was the sound from the yards then Beat to Quarters was the order. We had spotted and Aux Cruz zir of 20 to 30 guns on our 28th day at sea. I had the " Double ing " flag hoisted as we followed the small Sloop of War , 20 gun, HMS ELL in. The was an all day Bombardment at Sea.
Our seven 6 pdrs on the port side fired twice as fast as our Five 24 pdr Can o nades. It was a long day . finally , we lost her in the dark Damage We hit her as did the ELL but to no avail. The Leah lost part of her Rudder being shot away plus 3 hits in the haul starting leaks and 1 gun destroyed The Sloop had rigging damage and most of her Shot and powder had been used up + 17 wnd. Detached the Sloop for Base. We will continue towards other Islands held by the French or Gustria Rebles.
