I'm trying to bind mixture and zoom to the joystick hat switch but it won't take it. Is there a trick to this or is it just not possible to bind any commands to the hat switch ?

I just bind them the normal way. Select from the list what you want to bind, then unbind the default, push the hat switch the direction you want to bind and hit save.

Normally, you can't assign the POV to other commands. You could use a 3rd party joystick remapper.

Perhaps Joystick Gremlin (which also needs vjoy)

Doesn't work for me BB. Do you use 3rd party s/w as Pol suggests ?

I don't know what to tell you. The hat switch (or the least the one that looks like a had switch and is programable to four different functions) is on my throttle quadrant, I did not try to program the one on the joy stick. And, no I just used the in-game programming.

My error, the things I was referring to as hat switches are actually four way buttons that are on the throttle, I have left the hat switch as is for moving the external view around on the throttle and therefore assigned nothing to it.

Thanks for the clarification Beard. I'm pretty old school old_simmer ..... and just use a MSFFB2 stick with no added quadrant devices or whatever. But the stick is severely lacking in buttons hence my attempt to use the hat switch to add functionality. I don't really want to go down the rabbit hole of 3rd party s/w as suggested by Pol (but gratefully received of course). I shall just have to improve my keyboard finger stretching skills .... or get that T16000m stick I was thinking about but have been too slack to do.

Catch, as long as you can do without the FFB, the T16000m is a great stick for the price. I got mine back in the day for 50$ and I loved it. The sensors used for the stick are the same sensors used in the Warthog. Just gave my brand new back up T16000m stick to a friend in need, but I still have my original one as a back up in case my VKB ever takes a dump. :-)

Yep I don't want to spend a fortune on a stick Blade so I've settled on the T16000m. If I go ahead it's got enough buttons and hall sensors and stuff. WoFF doesn't handle FFB very well these days, and with the MSFFB2's lack of buttons, it seems the way to go. Or I could get a throttle quadrant for extra functionality. Nah, let's face it, I won't.

I use the T16000M and am very pleased with it. You should see if you can get a throttle quadrant for it (they used to/or still do make one that goes with the stick) though the way it is set up you can use a different brand quadrant if you like. The T16000M set up uses two USB inputs and they are recognized separately it the Key Bindings in the workshop. As an experiment I once set up a Saitek quadrant and a Logitec stick and everything functioned without problems.

Hallo @Catch,

yes, the T16000M is top!
Only a short info additionally to help you for decision: The Thrustmaster flightstick X is also a very good one, very stable, a longlife-stick. First of all if you fly with the right hand and use the 12 buttoms only with the left hand, maybe it is worth for you to think about it. For this handling they have made the stick. And it is a little bit cheaper.

Greetings

Hey thanks for the info guys. Much appreciated. I have to say one of the main reasons I'm not too keen on a throttle quadrant or similar device is lack of desk space. I have a tiny computer desk with my stick plonked in the middle of the pulled out front drawer. There's barely enough room on the desk for (avert eyes please children) an ashtray let alone a whisky tumbler !

Very good suggestion Becker about the flightstick X. I am right-handed and use my left for the buttons so that stick would actually be more comfortable for me than the t16000m which has 6 buttons (a little awkwardly) on the right hand side.
