If you are forced down behind enemy lines, but escape back to your own lines, the commentary says that you should have set fire to your aircraft to keep it from falling into enemy hands. Is there a key command to set fire to your aircraft, and if not, I hope the developers add one so that I don't have to see that message in the future.

Something I never gave a second thought to but, yeah, you're right. It would be nice to have that option.

Since you can't currently get out of your aircraft, I believe that I have detected a weak point in your plan...🤔

Interesting idea - I'll make a note.

You'll just have to turn your downed aircraft into a pyre ensuring that neither you or your aircraft are taken.

The commentary already tells the story that you either evaded capture and escaped back to your lines, or were captured and still escaped back to your own lines. I would think the assumption would be that you would be out of the aircraft prior to trying to escape, so no need for self-immolation.

By the way, in all of the times that I have been captured, I have always escaped. Has anyone ever been captured and been told "For you, the war is over." and had their pilot's career ended at that point?

Dave, I believe there's no possibility of being held captive until the end of the war. Never experienced it, at least. I assume it's a way to not throw the whole career in the bin after being downed, although it would make for a rather realistic outcome (I'm not sure about how many were able to escape captivity during war):

It always seemed unrealistic to me, like no one kept an eye on prisoners and people were just crossing over No Man's Land with no difficulty. I didn't complain, as it allowed me to continue on with my campaign. But it's of no consequence, I was mainly just curious about my initial inquiry about setting your plane on fire.

Being held until the end of the war seems to be a very rare occurance, but I feel like at least at one point it was possible, but may have been patched out?

The simplest fix would just be to delete the phrase "you should have burned your plane to keep if from falling into enemy hands" from the commentary. That way you wouldn't have to add or change code as to how the software functions.

I believe I've also had the case after a hard landing where the animation shows the plane on fire and it still said the plane was captured intact, and I should have set it on fire. It also allowed me to escape.

Somewhere far down the road, WOFF will probably give us a key binding to remove the watch from our Sopwith or SE5 after landing in a field – or else experience a bollocking from the squadron commander.
