Hi. Correct me if I'm wrong, but why has No. 56 Squadron RFC Nieuport 17 in April 1917? As far as I know, they only had SE5 aircraft. Have I missed something? WOFF BH&H II V1.22.

What do you mean exactly do you have a picture? in my BH&H II using "manual enlistment" only shows SE5 for all ranks throughout April 17, and in their entire existence looking in "Aircraft Deployed" only shows SE5, SE5a, SE5a Viper.
What date?
If you mean you see N17's sitting in front of hangers, these are not necessarily the aircraft you fly - they aren't as you are flying those ;)) think of them are spares or whatever.

Hi Pol. The date is April 27, 1917 and only four officers are equipped with Nieuport 17. All others have SE5. I started the campaign on April 7 and then there was no Nieuport. Strange.

Then it's possible some were used briefly due to issues with SE5 engine gearing if I rem. Shredward would know. Also some people chose to use other aircraft as they didn't like the SE5, I know Albert Ball did that initially.

Looking at the 14th April here I see a few N17's came in it must have been that issue with SE5's. They are all with Aces, so some may have chosen that especially historically. You cannot use them and cannot change them anyway.

Officially as you say, and as the manual create pilot screen shows they had se5's etc, but Shredward may know what the N17s were doing there for some top Aces.

Ok looking into it, Albert Ball did not like the SE5 initially, and after intense lobbying was allowed, to keep his N17 to fly his solo missions, but had to fly his SE5 during patrols. The problem with the system, is it will then assign it to other Aces.

Also Ball only used this on solo missions so unfortunately you'd never see him fly his solos.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Ball

"... and Ball himself was personally far from happy with the S.E.5. After some intense lobbying he was allowed to retain his Nieuport 17 no. B1522 when the unit went to France; the Nieuport was for his solo missions, and he would fly an S.E.5 on patrols with the rest of the squadron. This arrangement had the personal approval of General Hugh Trenchard"

So we will remove them for now Roger10.
