Some pics from a recent mission in the campaign from T-72 Tank Commander/Balkans on Fire/Iron Warriors. My task was to meet with a recce patrol on the road to an enemy-held village then check out the latter, in my solitary tank. I'm playing with the Gastello mod which much improves most AFVs and gunner's sights, amongst other things. Here's the mod's improved Leopard 1A4, next to the eponymous T-72.
Advancing cautiously, we run into an advancing platoon of T-34s, of which we make short work.
Skirting the woods, there's a hairy few moments when we're hit frontally by an unseen adversary. The smoke trails give him away as an RPG operator. And after backing into cover, we mow him down with the co-ax and then resume our advance.
A pause for observation, before moving on.
At the edge of the next patch of woodland, just visible in the long grass, is an enemy MTLB tracked carrier. Fortunately, it's not the variant with the roof-mounted ATGM. I put a round into him and then machine-gun some dismounted troops to his rear.
The village is in an awkward position, strung out along a road on the far side of a steep ridge. At least the trees provide cover for my approach. I manage to descend without rolling the tank, halting every few metres to scan for enemies. The village is apparently clear.
At this point, the sim CTD'ed, something I've not seen before. Didn't stop me moving on to the next mission. During which, my tank got blasted from behind by a pair of enemy-crewed T-55s which completely outflanked me. Everybody's using the same kit so identification, friend from foe, is something of a headache.
Once the campaign is over and I've got the hang of things, I'm planning to run through some user-made missions I got from the guy who runs a Facebook page for the sim. This pic, from one I tried earlier gives a flavour - not to be attempted until you have mastered things such as shooting down marauding Mi-8 helicopter gunships!
At least that mission gives me the T-72!
