And it took some crafty players to come up with this:

Enigma's Dynamic Cold War Campaign server.

Yes, this is an online solution, but I have been flying on the server for a couple of weeks now and can attest to how awesome it is. I have flown on the Blue Flag servers over the past few months and also the DDCS servers and Enigma's is by far the closest to a true "Falcon 4.0 dynamic campaign" experience yet in DCS, short of Liberation--which is a single player solution.

Enigma's is awesome.

Yes, it is cold war era only equipment. If you are a Viper/F-18/Su-27/Mig-29 etc. junkie, well, this server is not that. You're flying 1970s and older equipment here, which to me, enhances the experience immensely. You can't simply fly around in a F-14 or F-15 and spam missiles versus Mirage 2000 pilots anymore. Likewise, the helicopter experience is also a lot of fun, as you're flying stuff without digital cameras and radar, and dropping troops, saving pilots, etc. matters.

Oh, they even have an AI GCI/AWACS that you can communicate with verbally over VOIP and it responds with whatever information you need. She sounds great, too. Situational awareness is improved 100000%.

Check it out.

Good to see some more user efforts coming through. When a more fleshed out single player experience comes out...I might have to re-install DCS and give it a shot.

Admittedly, the vast majority of my time (probably around 80-90%) spent in DCS is with online cooperative missions. The other 10-20% is spent doing training missions and single missions so I can learn the different platforms and thus not feel completely lost when I play online.

I totally get the complaint from those who say that the single player aspect of DCS lacks immersion.

Hence why I play online, keeps me on my toes and I never know what I'm going to face next. I'll even fire up an aircraft for the first time online. To me, a sim needs to breathe and have a pulse to draw me in.
