Overall, seems the most historical choice and one I also look forward to trying out in campaign mode.

Might be best to just try it out first and see how it works. There's a lot of factors considered anyway, and this is mostly to stop aircraft, who have engaged, from chasing someone all the way to their airfield miles over the lines. It does not cancel missions or stop long range missions.
