Has anyone tried this? I picked it up due to a Steam sale and very high & consistent review opinions. I took the advice and went in blind, no trailers or playthrough reviews. Rather weird at first, no real idea of what I'm doing or why I'm playing, or even WHAT I'm playing.

After a few hours, things are becoming apparent. There is a great relief in finding out you cannot screw the game up, even if you never finish it. I've played for a few hours now, and am looking forward to following the various threads I find.

TL:DR - the game is Myst + Mercenary 2 Damocles (if anyone remembers that gem) + Groundhog Day.

I played the Mercenary games.
Feeling old just to admit that. smile
Also the reference to Myst makes it even more interesting.
Thank you for the heads up DM.

Just a qestion DM.
I find 3 versions on Steam.
It looks like The OUTER WILDS - ARCHAEOLOGIST EDITION covers them all?

Hi Wigean, happy new year smile

It looks like Archeologist edition has the main game + the single DLC it has. However as there's very little benefit in price in buying both together I reckon you could get the base game then DLC later depending on if you liked it. Pity this is 24 hours late, was on Winter sale 'til yesterday :/ I bought it pretty close to the end.

Happy New Year DM. smile
Hope you are fine in the beautiful city.
Haven`t been there since`86.
We flew in from Nurnberg to watch Czechoslovakia versus Sweden in some qualification match in soccer.
Then I visited an old church that were converted to restaurant or nightclub, I don`t quite remember now.
Hope they take better care of their history now. smile

I bought it last year based on the glowing reviews and the seemingly interesting twist in the gameplay, but it never really clicked for me. I'm sure there's a great game here, but I played for a few hours, figured out how to take off and land on other planets, but I had too little direction or focus or understanding or, something and I shelved it. I may return to it.

Hi DBond. I can understand that. Different players have different expectations and likes etc. I am 100% explorer so any game that allows me to explore imaginative and expansive environments gets interest from me smile but rigid linear gameplay, not so much. And the figuring out part - not everyone likes this, but I've played Myst and Riven in the past and enjoyed those, and figuring out what to do based on found information. (So I guess not 100% explorer biggrin but exploring is high for me)

So far I have enjoyed (and I'll hide stuff so others' enjoyment of discovery is not ruined)
Realising that
the game has a Groundhog Day-esque loop mechanic)

That the twin planets
spend the time loop transferring sand from one to the other, so areas are revealed on one planet but buried on the other

That the ship computer can
remember stuff you learned from previous loops and display it for you, building up a picture of the system

Lots of weirdness that I can't currently fathom, but I feel that there is a definite discoverable mechanic & purpose to it.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained or so it is said. Maybe I'll return to it at some point, are you still playing, did you finish it DM?

I didn't read your spoilers in case I do.

I am still playing, got about 15 hours into it so far, and there's probably another 15 before I manage to solve anything biggrin

I'm not exactly super-smart, so I have the occasional blind spot where I just don't get a major mechanic. I patted myself on the back for solving an increasingly difficult series of "quantum puzzles", but I ultimately didn't know why I solved them, either I didn't spot something at the end of it (meaning I'll have to solve them again to do a better search) or the solution was a paradigm solution - that I learned how to manipulate quantum objects. No spoilers there, I left it pretty vague smile

That's cool, if you finish post again and let me know what you thought of it overall if you don't mind.

Will do smile

I will add though, that I also played a little of the DLC, which is, to say the least, rather extensive smile and done in an ingenious way so although there is a large area, it is not interfering with the game at all. You have to seek it, which is a matter of looking at the information you do have (in this case a set of photos) and getting information from them so you know what to look for. I was very impressed when I discovered this, although if I didn't know I had it as a DLC (bought it as a bundle without really paying attention for example) I might have thought it was somehow a part of the main game puzzle, instead of its own puzzle.
