Custom battle with no enemy to practice troop movements, with the Divide et Impera, More Romans and RTW Music mods, all available from the Steam Workshop. Pre-Marian republic, triplex acies, velites in front, followed by the hastati, then the principes, with the triarii bring up the rear.

Very nice. It' also nice to see that some people still play Rome 2 including me!
“Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.”
I only just got Rome II. I played the original for a while, just the historical and custom battles, with the RTR mod. Never tried the campaign! I got cheesed off with the utter unreality of the left click-right click instant orders feature, of which any modern commander, with the latest digital battlefield systems, would be envious. With Rome II I'm trying to develop a style of play which involves basically lining 'em up and letting 'em go, and may the best/biggest army win. Using in-battle orders very sparingly, except for the mobile reserve formed by the general's 'companion cavalry' and possibly other cavalry.
What mods are you using/would you recommend for Rome II?

I've never used any mods for any of the TW games. The standard official releases have always been just fine for me.

I see! As a single battle player, what I liked about the RTR mod and see so far in DeI, is the improved realism of the armies, for example the vanilla Rome II velites...
...and other troop types being a lot more varied...
...and the stock hastati and principes portrayed as holding the pila they would throw before drawing swords and charging...
...instead of advancing with gladius drawn and no pila in sight...
