Ah yes that’s a valid point. I should have caught that earlier.

Lego has been rated the best toy multiple years.

Why Lego is the best toy ever invented

The episode mention Lego because Erector sets were the best toys sold in the world for 40 years (1913-1953) and in 1932, it inspired Ole Kirk Christiansen who had a failing had a wood making business to invent Lego which were made of wood.

I had an Erector set when I was 6-8 years old, probably sparked my life long love of mechanical things.

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

A lot of the toys I had as a child were things that I could build. I loved my Meccano set.

I suppose that it was inevitable that I ended up as a mechanic.

The earliest toys that I have a distinct memory of having are the original Star Wars action figures, X-Wing fighter and the Death Star station set. I also had one of those electric car racing tracks.

I am going to date myself by saying local neighbors bought the Atari 2600 video game computer and all children in the area spent much time at their home on weekends playing computer games. Other than that everyone where I grew up lived close to poverty conditions and us children played outdoor sports (American football, baseball, and football/soccer)

I remember when my neighbor got a Pong game. It was interesting and we played with it a bit but not so much to cut into our BB gun time very much. Then I got an Atari 2600 a few years later, as much as fun as it could be it still didn't supplant many outdoor activities.

I lived in a highly urbanized area as a child so my outdoor activities were limited to playing baseball or kickball on a neighborhood street. When my dad got me the Atari 2600 in 1979 I was hooked from day 1!

Right on! What blew me away was the number of games available for the system. Before the Atari 2600 we only knew of the few to several Arcade video games at the local convenience/liquor store down the road.

I remember the console system came with one game called "COMBAT" and I played the heck out of it until I got bored and got my dad to buy more other games. biggrin

Interesting. Rubik Cube is the best selling toy in history, more than Star Wars. It was invented by a Hungarian college teacher. Jenga was invented by a lady who resign from her manager job at Intel. Tetris was invented by a Russian programmer while working on a program for the KGB.

And I can guarantee you that George Lucas made infinitely more money from the sales of Star Wars toys than any of those inventors did from their creations!

At least the others didn't ultimately destroy their creations though.

I'm with rwatson that all of these "...that built America." have been freaking fantastic, and I generally hate television.

One of the later episodes sparked an idea for some Friday evening fun, so I went to Walmart and bought the game of Life. Ah man, no 3D plastic buildings and bridges that I remember in the 80's version. And there's a purple person now which I assume is some gender-bender crap in this new version. frown We'll still play and have fun with it (couldn't sell her on Risk/Castle Risk or naked Twister), but I'll be on the lookout for an 80's version of Life.

The rusty wire that holds the cork that keeps the anger in
Gives way and suddenly it’s day again
The sun is in the east
Even though the day is done
Two suns in the sunset, hmph
Could be the human race is run
