Probably the best game you can get on Steam for a fiver! It just got another update today (map editor, and squad editor) which makes it alot better looking then before among other tweaks and with the added map editor. A one man team! Single player and multiplayer, just pump the AI to high (more on map) and your good to go.

Looks promising...just need to get a keymap...and it's got single player, not just MP!

I REALLY like some of the detail I've seen on the first outing, like the British infantrymen having a first field dressing under the helmet camo nets and the reload animation for the Bren Gun, although the drill (strangely enough) - at least in the 1960s Infantry Training Pamphlet I still have - was to cock the gun before taking the mag off, not after loading a new mag. I also like the ability to switch to another member of your section/squad if you become a casualty. I'll be a bit disappointed if there's only a first person view for the player character, not just the first person view seen here. Early days.

Your welcome! Glad you like it 33lima. You can also give orders as a squad leader too, and fly planes, drive vehicles (tanks) etc. I think there´s only first person view, at least I haven´t seen a 3rd. person view option, sorry for that.

Yes it has third person (toggled with the T key by default).

For the low asking price, it's certainly worth a try, from the time I've spent with it so far. The developer is listening to feedback and it seems likely to get better. Things I'd like to see are the ability to look sideways in the 3rd person view without completely moving your whole body (OFP did this by craning the neck to either side); some variations in the different stances eg two or more slight variations in 'alert, standing' and your section automatically watching their different arcs and dropping to a knee (or as someone already suggested, automatically adopting the same stance as you when you're section leader) ie an 'action on halts' drill.

Definitely reminds me of OFP and I loved that!

I doubt he was trained to hold the Sten by the mag!

I just got this, for 5 bucks can't really go wrong. It's a little unpolished but has potential. My only gripe at the moment is I can't get the screen bright enough and things in the distance are a bit blurry. Kind of reminiscent of the first Red Orchestra. There doesn't seem to be anyone on Multiplayer as of yet.

The distance blur has been added in this last update.(dynamic depth of field while aiming). See update log below...
Easy Red 2 update log

Here´s a older co-op mode YT video, it´s not the recent build, IMO it looks alot better now...

Well worth the price, myself and other friends agree that it has alot of potential too! It´s only been out a year and there´s so much you can do in this game as it is so far, aside that with the editor and Steam workshop you get endless gameplay.

The game is to be fully released (with free upcoming updates) this month smile2

Red 2 you biggrin

I just realised that you can use a camera view to look around at the battlefield from the mission intro screen:

[Linked Image]

So while there isn't a map-based pre-mission battle planning phase - nor an in-game map, I think, tho there is a 'satelite view', instead - there's some way to orient yourself before being pitched into the action.

Some pics from one of the Anzio missions...

British Army radio operators seem to have MP18 Bergman SMGs for some reason, and where carried, revolvers seem to be velcro'ed to hips and minus holsters. Radios and A/T weapons are also commonly issued in Easy Red 2 at section/squad level rather than platoon, which may be less realistic but makes the section/squad level game more varied eg you can use the radio to call for tank support and artillery or close air support.

And here's some screenies from a user-made mission, one of many already available in the Steam 'Workshop' for the game, this one based on one in another 'shooter' involving disabling some German rail guns in Italy. In the in mission intro screen you can change the time of day, so I opted to try this one in darkness...

First reaction to this one is:

- it's incredible value for an already highly-featured, detail-packed WW2 shooter which feels like something between OFP and Hidden and Dangerous Deluxe/H&D 2;
- the available maps (and there's now a map editor) are in a relatively open world, not the channeled 'levels' of the likes of Ghost Recon or Call of Duty;
- it has some rough edges but is very promising and has great potential for expansion
- with a few additions to the command and control system, it could be even better as a Section Commander/Squad Leader combat sim, suitable for any period from WW2 up to early Cold War.
