Am I mistaken, or can Skyrim claim to be the first game to influence mainstream culture? Memes, Music... Not at all. You have games like Doom, Half Life and Starcraft which all had major influences in pop culture.

Anyone still playing Skyrim? I restarted with the Anniversary Edition.
I've played through Skyrim and all DLC's 3 times. The last time was when that deluxe edition came out a few years ago which had the much improved terrain and water textures. It was free for anyone who already had Skyrim in their Steam library.

Am I mistaken, or can Skyrim claim to be the first game to influence mainstream culture? Memes, Music... I don't know. Lets see what the Valve shill has to say: Not at all. You have games like Doom, Half Life and Starcraft which all had major influences in pop culture. I've played through Skyrim and all DLC's 3 times. Gives 3 other examples of games... Skyrim has 3 DLC's... Played through them 3 times... I think the answer is pretty clear

RSColonel_131st, I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow in the knee. So now, after having gone through the 3 main stories several times I use the "live another life" and 297 other mods and pay scant attention to the main stories. I think many people never get into their games with much depth, it is a race to the finish and on to the next shiny object. PanzerMeyer, a hardcore fan would never take so much time away from the game! (Someone would probably steal my sweetroll while I was gone.)

The irony is I installed Cyberpunk2077 about three weeks ago. And yet here I am, playing Skyrim. Different strokes for different folks. My personal experience is that if a game doesn’t grab me within the first week of buying it then I move on to something else. Fortunately for me that has only happened like 3 or 4 times in the past 25 years.

One never stops playing Skyrim. One only takes sabbaticals. To Fallout 4.
The opinions of this poster are largely based on facts and portray a possible version of the actual events. More dumb stuff at http://www.darts-page.comFrom Laser: "The forum is the place where combat (real time) flight simulator fans come to play turn based strategy combat."

Dart, or il21946, which is now IL2 BAT FLASHPOINT, eons ahead of Olegs Masterpiece but possible only because he and his team did such excellent work.
PanzerMeyer, you are right, it has to grab us, as good as the Witcher games are, I have 2 and 3, they do not appeal to me. Stalker, all three of them, got me for several years but Skyrim cured me.
So, my 2 mainstays are 10 and 20 years old.
And, to get back on topic, the only settings I lower in any game are lens flare and Music.

I loved the music in ESIV Oblivion. I also remember really liking the main opening theme to Skyrim. Skyrim is one of those games though where I always would get caught in a modding cycle trying to fix things in the game and make it look and play better and by the time you spend time and energy figuring all that out its wearying. Plus its the kind of RPG where its easy to get side tracked and not make much headway progressing the story. I think I had nearing 300 hours in Skyrim but never beat the main story. I think I made it to whatever the ending world was and just got burned out. If I could find a all in one mod that took most of the work out of modding environments, graphics, physics, better archery and so on I'd really like to play Skyrim again but only if I discipline myself to complete the main story.
I'd love to sit and listen to a live professional orchestra play Elder Scrolls music. I'd have to remind myself of some of the game's other melodies but I distinctly remember the stirring intro theme for the game. It builds, lifts, takes you on a mysterious journey, and culminates into a majestic finish.

. My three playthroughs of Skyrim were all unmodded. I enjoyed the game just fine "out of the box". The only game where modding has really had a profound impact for me is ArmA 3.

I always play Bethesda's games vanilla the first time or two. After that it's modding time. Mostly cosmetic, unofficial patches, and fixing things that bugged me in vanilla.
With mods a lot of what determines if I use it or not for a certain game is the install process. If I have to delve into renaming files, extracting ZIP files into different directories, modifying config files, blah, blah, blah then I usually don't bother.
