I don't know if it has been surpassed since then, but I recall seeing this movie when it came out and I declared it the most gunfire ever seen in a single film. I'll nominate Showgirls for the question. I liked watching it but never want to see it again
No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!

Schindler’s List
Unbroken

Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

I agree about the book. As a matter of fact it really resonated with me. I have known of all the cruelty shown prisoners and POWs, but Unbroken made it hit me on a level that has stuck with me. I have a whole new appreciation for food. When I’m trimming meat and things I will think of how prisoners would have cried to have what I was cutting. It really hits me when I throw anything away for any reason again thinking of how those prisoners would have cried for what I was throwing away. I look at portions and think how if what I was eating could have been shared by 10 prisoners they would have been filled with gratitude and how it could have saved their lives.
It haunts me.

I forgot to mention that I was quite impressed with all the UK actors in the film who did very convincing American accents: Jason Isaacs, Ewan McGregor, Tom Hardy, Eric Bana and Ewen Bremner. Correction: Eric Bana is Australian but his American accent was still convincing.

I've read that British and Australian actors often find the Southern accents of the US easier to do than the "normal" US accent.

Just re-watched this film today, saw it when it came out and loved it. But it is in some ways a hard film to watch after reading the book.
The book really connects you to the soldiers/heroes. The film almost cheapens the loss, though I find it hard to relay why. It's an amazing film still, but one I will not watch again anytime soon.
Not many films do that. Name a film that you watch and like but do not want to see again. I cannot think of many. The book was more horrific. Movie I liked, but don't want to see again, The Deer Hunter. Depressing.

Yeah I’m pretty sure not too many people went to go see “The Deer Hunter” on their first date. Lol.

I have to say that I've never seen a movie that I liked and found so depressing/dark that I couldn't watch it again. When I see great artistry and creativity in a film I always want to revisit it regardless of how dark the subject matter is.

I went to see Saving Private Ryan in theaters when I was a teenager with some friends. We really enjoyed the movie. Several years later in my early 20's I got it on DVD and watched it again for the first time. The knife scene really disturbed me and I haven't watched it again since. Strange I don't even really remember that scene specifically from the first time I watched it as a teenager, and only a few years later it affected me so much I didn't want to watch it again...
