Schmee...I've subscribed, unsubscribed, and just now subscribed again to this guy, I do love his cars.

He can be a bit "uppity" at times, but he is really bright IMO.

Skip to around 14 minutes to hear a really interesting analysis of many of the facets of the electric car mania going on. Quite astute IMHO.

I am not there, never have been or ever will be, but the fruitless search may be more gratifying then the "content" you might otherwise be exposed to.

I'm not a big electric car fan (I own a V8 Mustang), but I am not sure that guy's numbers are correct. Here is a video where they really dig in and do some research and calculations on the efficiency of electric vs. ICE cars that I think is probably more accurate.

In my opinion if you live in a highly centralized urban area which has a decent amount of charging stations then it might be worth getting an electric car.

I don't trust any battery in -40 winters. Maybe if I lived in some place more temperate I'd consider it.

thats exactly my thought

in cold weather and at night we are using up battery capacity to heat, defrost, and light

in a combustion engine, the heat comes "free" from the cooling system

Well, as can be seen from this brief section of Guy Martin's appraisal and experience of electric vehicles, there are so many variables that effect the given range of the vehicle, length of recharge time and availability of functioning and efficient charging stations even in temperate Britain with no extremes of climate many of you Mercuns endure!

We are due to purchase a replacement car, but as a village dweller, on this and other evidence, I don't think I'll be considering an electric one yet

I have no issue with electric cars ...or nuclear powered cars ..or steam powered cars, as long as they meet these ( personal ) criteria

1/ Cost about the same as a similarly equipped and similar sized gas powered car
2/ Have a range of at least 300km at a speed of 100kph at below freezing temps
3/ be able to be refueled to max capacity in under 15minutes

Numbers 1 and 3 are not even remotely close yet
