That video was quite the trip down memory lane for me. My very first PC flight sim purchase was "Jetfighter" back in 1989. I bought it at a Radio Shack.

Was that for your 386?

I played the heck out of Jetfighter II in 1990. Defending the West Coast of the USA...

Well, sort of. I didn't have a computer at the time but I installed it on my friend's 386 and we played it on that. biggrin

Built my own first PC, a 386DX/25, somewhere around 91-92 I think... I went with the 25 because the 33 was still a lot more expensive biggrin biggrin biggrin

I recall it was a big deal when I got a 387 co-processor to put in it for doing AutoCAD instead of using a software emulator. Night and day lol

Seems around that time I played the MicroProse F-19 Stealth Fighter game, and Red Baron of course...couple years later, the F22 ADF sim and RBII / RB3D.

How things have changed...

My first desktop was a Packard Bell 486sx-25. I remember being very disappointed when I found out that I couldn't use the high fidelity flight model in Falcon 3.0 because my PC didn't have a math co-processor. I kept that Packard Bell until I went to a Pentium 100 in 1995.

Yup, remember those as well. I remember like it was yesterday talking to a guy I worked with about the "new Pentium chips" (which hadn't come out yet). Intel finds out the hard way you can't copyright a part number...lol I think my first Pentium was a 90. And then those wild looking, slot-mounted obelisks**, the PII's and PIII's. And, oh....the 3Dfx cards. I had a VooDoo 3 3000 at one point, I believe, and eventually wound up with a VooDoo 5 5500 just before 3Dfx was no more. (** which, because of space and cooling, actually seemed like a good idea to me <shrug> Whadda I know? biggrin )

Man, what memories!

I can recall playing Microprose's F-15 Strike Eagle on my Atari 800 while listening to the Top Gun soundtrack, and thinking how cool that was.

I think I've posted this before, but it's a comparison I did between that simulator and DCS (at the time - 2017 - and it's gotten better since then):
