Excellent sci-fi military anime. The author was heavily influenced by WW I and WW 2 and also a bit of Battlestar Galactica. It is quite depressing in some respects but very powerful for an anime. You will go back and forth from anger to sadness to respect and admiration.
I don't want to spoil it of course and you can go to YouTube and watch the trailer for season 1 but I thought the video for one of the songs is actually better than the trailer.
12 episodes long TV series, episodes are split between two characters perspectives. I would compare it favourably to Star Blazers though it is terrestrial in nature not space based. It can be graphic in the material it deals in but not gratuitously so, unlike some other anime which seem to include gore just to be gory. Really it is more about certain themes and concepts of soldiers trying to survive.
I watched it on Crunchyroll, but I am sure it can be found elsewhere. Since it was apparently a Crunchyroll production it comes in English or Japanese and the English voice acting is quite good.
