On 25th September 1940 - after the Battle of Britain was supposedly lost - the Luftwaffe mounted a highly successful daylight raid on the Bristol Aircraft Company works near the city of Bristol. These are some pics from Battle of Britain II's recreation of the raid. I'm flying a Spitfire I as Green Leader with 609 'West Riding' Squadron.

Fighter Command was rather badly caught out on this one and the Heinkel IIIs of Kampfgeschwader 55 'Greif', escorted to this distant target by Messerschmitt 110s of Zerstoerergeschwader 26, hit the target hard, causing many casualties and much damage.

The first wave has already bombed by the time 609 arrives and it looks like we'll be pushed to catch the second one in time, too.

I lead Green Section slightly out to the right of the squadron, to give us a little elbow room, and try to indicate the targets to my leader.

[Linked Image]

He finally spots the Heinkels at 12 o'clock and orders the boys to pick their own targets. Looking back, I can see the squadron splitting up for the attack.

[Linked Image]

There's no sign of the escorts here, so we go straight for the bombers.

[Linked Image]

By this time, the first wave is turning for home.

[Linked Image]

Looks like we've got to them before they bombed!

[Linked Image]

I never found out for sure, for pre-occupied with lining up screenshots, I messed up my attack and collided with one of the Heinkels as I charged into their formation! Better luck next time.

Second effort, flying the same aircraft, went only slightly better.

[Linked Image]

[Linked Image]

This time, I decide to try to stick closer to the others as they go for the bombers.

[Linked Image]

[Linked Image]

However, I go too wide in my first curve of pursuit so by the time I make my pass, I'l be attacking on my own.

[Linked Image]

I get some hits on one of the rear Heinkels, then pull up sharply, catching a lot of hits from return fire as I do so.

[Linked Image]

I probably scared more Huns than I damaged.

[Linked Image]

Coming around again, my engine is surging as the revs fall, recover, then fall again. This cuts my speed as well as making my aircraft hard to control.

[Linked Image]

I slowly amble up behind the Heinkels, fearing the worst but determined to get in one more pass.

[Linked Image]

My first target on the left of the formation is clobbered by a Spit attacking ahead of me so I slide over to the right and go for a Hun on that side. I am attacking on my own again and the tracers fairly fly at me from the Hun gunners. Whack! Whack! Whack! go the hits. During the first pass, my bullet-proof windscreen had been cracked so I can hardly see what I am aiming at, while the power surges push my nose up and down.

[Linked Image]

Out of the corner of my eye, I see a flare of orange flame in my rear view mirror. Not good, not good...

[Linked Image]

At the same moment, the crew bails out of the Heinkel I'm shooting at.

[Linked Image]

I manage to bail out as both aircraft go down, but my 'chute doesn't open!

[Linked Image]

I definitely need a bit more practice before starting another BoB2 campaign and putting the fate of Old England in my hands!

You know 33lima, this happens to all of us simmers, but I think you are the only brave enough one to share that it does not always end well. Twice yesterday I was practicing in my N28 so that I can return to my long delayed on hold 95th Squadron Campaign in WOFF PE, and while I was checking my six very well and also putting a hurt on a few DVa Boches, I also ripped the wings right off of my N28, which honestly I have never done before, but did not fare well for Sgt. Campbell. Luckily I always use the 'pilot never dies' option while practicing. Soldier on my good Sir, Onwards and Upwards and all of that Chivalrous Stuff, hear hear, mmmmm well yes.........cough cough.. walking slowly away...... winkngrin

Great shots 33lima. I'd like to try this sim again especially since my PC is better than the one I had when the game came out. I especially like this shot:

I can't imagine what this all would have looked and felt like in real life to witness.

Thanks Coot! Latest advice on getting BoB2 to run on Windows 10 is here: https://a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=68917&start=90 The ultimate patch, BDG 2.13, still really needs Win 7, although I managed somehow to get it running on Win 10 but still with frequent CTDs when exiting a mission.

Thank you 33lima. I'm still on Windows 7 so I'll take a look at that BDG patch you mentioned.
