Second effort, flying the same aircraft, went only slightly better.
This time, I decide to try to stick closer to the others as they go for the bombers.
However, I go too wide in my first curve of pursuit so by the time I make my pass, I'l be attacking on my own.
I get some hits on one of the rear Heinkels, then pull up sharply, catching a lot of hits from return fire as I do so.
I probably scared more Huns than I damaged.
Coming around again, my engine is surging as the revs fall, recover, then fall again. This cuts my speed as well as making my aircraft hard to control.
I slowly amble up behind the Heinkels, fearing the worst but determined to get in one more pass.
My first target on the left of the formation is clobbered by a Spit attacking ahead of me so I slide over to the right and go for a Hun on that side. I am attacking on my own again and the tracers fairly fly at me from the Hun gunners. Whack! Whack! Whack! go the hits. During the first pass, my bullet-proof windscreen had been cracked so I can hardly see what I am aiming at, while the power surges push my nose up and down.
Out of the corner of my eye, I see a flare of orange flame in my rear view mirror. Not good, not good...
At the same moment, the crew bails out of the Heinkel I'm shooting at.
I manage to bail out as both aircraft go down, but my 'chute doesn't open!
I definitely need a bit more practice before starting another BoB2 campaign and putting the fate of Old England in my hands!
