I haven't got VR, can't afford it, but this should keep the VR community happy smile

DITTO. I hope it works well for all of the Potential CLOD/DWT VR users. I have been viewing quite a few fairly prominent YouTube sim pilots who have documented their experiences with using VR. While each says that the experience is Incredible, they each have warned of the high level of hardware needed, the heat generated on your face(sweating), the decrease graphical settings to achieve acceptable FPS, the high cost to purchase a top of the line headset and the multiple programs that must be run along with the many hours it takes to set up and then fine tune for optimal performance on your particular rig as the detractors of VR. As you said Trooper, I don't have the money, but also as important, I don't have the time or patience anymore to go through all of that to possibly be disappointed with the huge investment of time and money which seems to be involved. Me and my TIR will soldier on in 2D goodness I think.

Looks very well thought out. Well done.

Awesome! I have been hoping that this would coming one day! The day VR is available will be the day I reinstall IL2 CLOD and buy the expansion for sure! It's all looking good!

The money is a legitimate issue, and sure some people will find VR headsets uncomfortable, but I would disagree that they are any more time consuming to setup or learn to use effectively than any of the other myriad pieces of hardware we flight simmers use regularly. Personally, I probably spent more time tweaking the early versions of TrackIR, and have definitely spent a lot more time building profiles to use all the features of the TM Cougar, than I ever will adjusting my Reverb G2. Similarly, while finding the graphics setting sweet spot to run DCS at good FPS can take a little "fiddling," again it is no worse than what most of have faced in the past when trying to balance the visual and performance requirements of a hardware intensive sim.

I'm a long time VR user, in terms of the PC hardware needed, I tend to stay current enough to run my game at high res with high setting on a monitor. That does translates to to a VR headset. If you cant run a game in VR because of poor hardware, you will struggle to run it on a monitor too
In terms of VR hardware cost. The Quest 2 is £299 and works very well with BoX. which also costs less than my current 2560x14440 32" monitor.

I run an Valve Index with a second hand Vive lighthouse. Whole lot cost £500. But I have tested my Sons Quest 2 on my set up and that is very comparable in terms of picture quality to my Index
I have also tested his Quest on his PC which only runs a 1050 ti and found Box runs well enough at low settings with the sync set at 72hz

As for the heat and sweaty face comments I've seen. I don't get that at all in my Index. Stays cool and as it's fairly lightweight is pretty comfortable as well. Even in long sessions.
I would normally take a breather in between sorties anyway. Take my "goggles" off to check PWCG for Flying Circus, enter my combat report and pick up a new mission.
TBH I've had more uncomfortable headsets over the years.

Combat Sims are a Niche within a Niche (etc etc) and I'm even more in a Niche as I only play WWI and BoB sims. The lack of VR is all that stops me playing CloD at the moment. I bought Tobruk as a pre order only to support TF and to aid development of VR

I gave my Oculus CV1 to a squad mate, who now doesn't use anything else, even online!

“No VR, no flight Simming”, I used to say. Then my CV1 had a bad cable. Hooked my TIR3 back in after a while and I had a good time. Same thing happened when I got a Reverb G2. Messed up cable after 6 months and switched back to the TIR3. Most planet earthbound flight sims turned out to be still enjoyable outside VR. Better resolution is the first thing that jumps out. Elite Dangerous is parked when my VR is on the fritz though. The “being there in space factor” is just too big to do without. I finally got the replacement cables from HP for the Reverb G2 and everything is working again as it should. VR is magnificent if the stars are aligned and you happen to have the right hardware. Not sure anymore with the rising hardware cost, if the amount of VR players that can afford the hardware, covers the VR update development cost for older games like CloD, but I’m glad it’s coming. Got the Desert Wings Tobruk, expansion to support the team and patiently waiting until it gets released in VR.
