We've all heard there were parts of the war when some pilots had a lifespan of less than 2 weeks. I decided on a lark to try an experiment and enlist a pilot - Andrew Ingraham (A.I.) - in RNAS 1 on 23 January 1916 and let him fly all of his own missions, from take off, patrols, fighting engagements all the way until landing just to see how long he would last and what kind of a career he would have. He was made a Veteran pilot and you can see the workshop settings in the pic below. After four missions and 4.02 flight hours logged, he bagged his first kill (an Eindecker). He flies while I watch TV, etc. Wish him luck. He's doing his best for King and Country!

This will be interesting to see what happens. I am curious though, why no wingman and why claims are set to easiest???

Claims set to easiest because I am not staring at the monitor during his flights. He's totally on his own. So if he shoots something down, I have no idea what it was. But Promotions are normal and he flies from take off to (hopefully) landing, through whatever weather on exactly the flight path the CO gave him.
Final flight status for this weekend for Flight Sub-Lieutentant Andrew Ingraham (AI). 9 Missions flown in his Nieuport 10C for a total of 12.7 hours and 1 confirmed kill. He's off to a great start!

"Claims set to easiest because I am not staring at the monitor during his flights." Duh me. LOL, never thought of you not seeing his kills. Pretty smart Hellshade. Nice pic of a nasty day to go on patrol.

I've done this many times. You don't have a long career (well AI pilot doesn't:). Alb pilots have a very bad time.

I confess I never thought to do this, so I'm now giving it a go. Maybe we all should, see whose pilot lasts longest from an agreed start point. Like AI is AI. I've started mine in Autumn 1916, Sub Lieutenant Arthur 'Artie' Fitchell No. 3 RNAS. (I'm an RNAS fan). Anyway, not to steal Hellshade's thunder, it's fun.

Oh that I was back in the dear old PBI.
With no more Triplanes on me tail, nor tracer tracing by.
And no more flames and clickerty-clack and no more blooming sky,
And only a couple of feet to fall whenever I want to die.

Well, he flew every mission bravely and never showed fear in the face of the enemy. Right up until the end. 19 missions. Just shy of 30 hours and 1 confirmed kill to his name but rear gunners in an Aviatik took him out. RIP Andrew Ingraham.

Dang! Hope I didn't jinx him by leaping on the bandwagon.
