Has anyone here ever tried the DNA kit from Ancestry.com or some other genealogy website to find out the geographical origin of your ancestors? Out of curiosity I tried the one from Ancestry a while ago and these are the main geographical origins for my ancestors based on my DNA profile:

Spain : 44%
Portugal: 23%
France 7%
Germanic Europe: 4%

And here I’ve been thinking you were Irish because of what you’ve said in your posts and where you live.

Italian, Irish, and a bit of English. I have a very German sounding last name because they changed my grandfathers Italian last name to sound "more American" at Ellis Island in the early 1900's. When I tell people I'm not German, they look at my like I'm lying. It's kind of strange.

With family names like Richenderfer on my mother's side and Schultz on my father's I feel it would be a waste of money.

My 2 daughters have taken the test and the results was a mixed bag of scandinavian , finnish and british.

I have made a descision not to give my dna profile away as it probably will be a way of ID in the future.

So I`ll stick to that for the time beeing.

I simply don`t trust these companies for keeping your information safe. smile

I'm like Wigean; I don't trust that my info would be kept private. My wife, on the other hand, had hers done. Her dad was Italian and her mother is German, but she actually came back with very small traces of Middle Eastern and African.

If you go back far enough, everyone has traces of African origin. smile

We have a couple ancestry kits sitting around so long they may be out of date. This thread may get us to use them.

My Grandparents emigrated to the USA over 110 years ago from Hungary and Poland. My wife's from Ireland.

With all the population movements throughout History, I really don't care about those tests. My last name is from South East France, I know some of my ancestors came from Italy, and one from Belgium. That's enough for me.

Never was curious about my ancestry.Never met my parents so I just don't care where they came from .As far as I'm concerned my Ancestry is American that's all that matters to me.Learning what countries my bloodlines run through means nothing to me.

When filing out the census form there is a section asking where you are from, ie what country. I say Canadian which has got me a phone call from the Feds because I didn't give my heritage.

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.
