There is a GoG EAW forum and checking it out today I found that the last post in it was on June 28th. It was a reply from me to a post on June 27th.

GoG EAW forum

Some other posts in that forum direct new users to SimHQ, but I suspect that the lack of posts re-the GoG release both here and there is an indication that nothing has been happening for several weeks. It suggests that the anticipated resurgence as a result of the GoG release has not occurred frown

However, there has been 152 downloads of my OAW expansion pack:

Maybe this is a "silver lining" but I would love to have had more feedback from those users wink

The Gog excitement seems to have run its course.

But a trickle of players may find their way here.

Tried to play GoG version, and seemed the game needed a wrapper prog to make all screens work. Abesnt such a wrapper prog, the menu screens were unusable. Haven't tried Steam version yet.

The more players of EAW, the better, I reckon. Some of them will find their way here, and that can only be a plus.

I had no trouble installing and running both of the GoG releases.

Everything that was needed was there, this is the folder wink

When you run EAW in glide, you set your ini file to Width=1024 Height=768 and nglide to your desktop resolution.

Thanks Shogun ! i think the closest view is much better for sighting and zeroing target, it's also gives more zoom for external view smile

When the Glide3 code was written for us (thanks Zeus) we were advised that the resolution in the eaw.ini had to be 1024x768.

Anyone have a suggestion for a glide wrapper? Is there one that works best with EAW?

My system is a Windows 7 Home Premium Intel Core i5-2400 CPU @3.10HGz 4 Core. Graphics card is a GeForce GTX 1050 Ti.

Which EAW version do you want to run?

My PC has a slot into which I plug a disk with an operating system on it, so I have a choice of Win 10 or Win 7. They both use the same AMD graphics card so I get horizon fog.
For 160 I use nGlide in Win 10 to get better frame rates (60 fps instead of 30 fps) but my eaw.ini resolution must be set to 1024x768 as required by the EAW1.29-UAW160 source code for Glide3).
When we fly online at GameRanger I use my Win 7 disk and run in d3d with a frame rate of 60 fps.

GoG provide nGlide with their installation.

Until recently I have been using nGlide (because it was good for Hind and RB3D too). Zeckensack's was OK for EAW as well. Now I found that dgVoodoo2 is the best: it is capable of running EAW in d3d with horizon fog in full HD; have not tried it in glide mode yet.

Thanks for the answers guys, appreciate it. Will download both nGlide and dgVoodoo2 and try both.

At some stage in the development of UAW "Zeus" (who writes and produces nGlide) modified our source code so that it could use Glide 3.
This gave our exe the ability to load and display 512x512 BMP files as aircraft, TMOD and terrain textures in Glide mode.
The only condition was that the eaw.ini had to be set to 1024x768 resolution. The nGlide resolution could still be set to suit the users' screens.

I am unsure of any requirements that may be needed by nGlide when it is used with EAW versions that are only programmed to use Glide 2.

I just did a check of my source code folders. The "glide.h" file needs to be used, and after checking I found that there are only two versions.
One is the original dated 17th June 1998, and the other is dated 5th August 2015. This suggests that the latter is the one made when the Glide 3 code was added, and that exes compiled before that date do not have it.
