This is one of the few games this year that I'm looking forward to. I see lots of comments about the graphics being sub-par but honestly, if they get the gameplay right I don't care.
I think the graphics are a logical step forward from the original, besides which you only have to look at Gaea Mission to see that pretty visuals doesn't mean anything if the gameplay isn't good enough.
I just played the demo (a massive download of 500 mb) and I thought it was pretty good.
The only part that confused me at first was when I deployed the vehicles. They don't show up on the map unless you zoom right in. No biggie, just part of the learning curve. I did enjoy exploring the interface,it all seemed quite logical. I took the first Island with no problems.
It's still a purchase for me based on what I've seen so far.
Weird. I had an e-mail today stating 'You've been invited to help test Carrier Command 2'. So that's just me and everyone else then
*I was hoping that this would run on my laptop (3rd gen i7/GTX670M) which it does but only around 15-25 fps. Which is sort of playable-just.
Just out of interest I decided to install and run Carrier Command:Gaea Mission on the lappy and on med details it gave me 50+ fps. This is quite a good looking game, although some 12 years old. Hopefully they will optimise CC2 to a point where it's more playable on older hardware.
Just found out about this little gem, straight onto my wishlist I have very fond & good memories of the old Amiga version (which I still have somewhere). I hope they decide to work VR into it eventually, it seems like it could be a good fit.

It seems MicroProse is rolling with releases, I had a feeling this one would be next after the release of HighFleet. If everything they release is on par or better then HighFleet, I really think MicroProse is going to live after there name again!
Personally Iam very happy for that, It´s about time we had some real quality games coming our way, kudos to the team at MicroProse!

Release day!
A bit on the expensive side in my opinion, but I just fired it up to see that it ran ok so I can´t say yet if it´s worth it.
There are some complaints that the plane handling is a bit rough (WASD), and should be done with the mouse (steer). That might get changed, I don´t know, but there is game pad support and that might be a better option for the airframe handling. Like I said, I haven´t really tried the game yet.

I tried it a little last night, but the VR version (You get both versions when you buy it). The VR version was, in my first impression, very confusing. There seems to be no information on how to use your controllers, they don't use standard mapping conventions and only by desperate trial & error did I find that some buttons use a double-tap to do "something". It was generally a frustrating experience, which is unfortunate.
Other than that it seems to be fairly well realised, I actually got lost in the ship, it seems to be quite extensive how much is modelled of it. I discovered bunk rooms, kitchens, a workshop. The movement method is point-&-teleport, I'd have preferred a smooth movement option but if there is one I didn't discover it.
Took me a while to get anything done, I landed some surface vehicles on the nearest island, and I discovered how to transfer my view to them, but I didn't discover how to control them. I could fire the gun by double-tapping a button & using my face to aim, but the aiming reticule seemed different for each eye and was uncomfortable. I didn't figure out how to drive them.
Probably spent about an hour playing it, I think I will install the 2D version & learn that first, see if it gives me some clues for the VR version.
But the feel is great. It feels like the old Amiga version viewed through rose-tinted glasses which is what I wanted.
It was a 5 or 600mb download, which is kind of funky when you think of even average game sizes nowadays.

Further to the above, it seems only a couple of specific VR products are fully supported (e.g. Vive & Occulus) and if you have different controllers, it sucks to be you
It's not made very obvious that this is the issue, particularly when my controllers ingame are the replicas of my actual controllers.

No, I just think there worth posting because there´s only a simple manual in the options tab. As with High Fleet, also from MicroProse, both have quite some depth to them, and today´s players don´t have the patience that us vets have so just in case, some extra help is always welcome to all me thinks
Although this game is getting a beating from the newer generation, Iam very happy that MicroProse is back and doning such good games so far. They have really brought back that excitement to play a game again, at least for me. Regardless of some of the bad press there getting from this new anxious generation who wants everything on demand!
