in summer 2015 when Berlin police conducted a search of the home. the police discovered an 88 mm flak cannon, 70 assault rifles and machine guns, an unspecified number of semi and fully automatic pistols and a trove of Nazi memorabilia, including busts of Hitler, mannequins outfitted in Nazi uniforms, swastika pennants and SS rune-shaped lamps. They also found an Arno Breker bronze sculpture of a nude man, once reputedly located outside Hitler’s Reich Chancellery, in an outdoor garden. The collector also owned a replica of a V-1 rocket.
There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB. The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed. There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

It was on the news this morning. Don't remember hearing about it in 2015.

The story broke NOW because the guy who had the Panther in his basement is going to trial in Germany NOW for the laws he violated.

Since when is any kind of government bureaucracy quick? And besides, you had the whole pandemic thing which I’m sure delayed things even more.

In 1978/79 here was a very strong winter, almost every street was covered so high with snow, that is was impossible to drive on them, some cities and villages were completely cut off. Back then, the owner drove his Panther to clear his street. some people told. Might be an urban myth though

Too bad the Panther didn't have a "hedgerow clipper" attachment like the Sherman did.

The guy has been sentenced now. 14 months suspended sentence, 250,000 Euro fine and he has to sell the 88 and the panther within the next two years.
It is a strange thing, the sentence does not seam to have anything to do with the tank/88, he was sentenced for a machine gun barrel and two rounds of amunition. Fair enough, he could not legally own those, but why does he have to sell the stuff he aparently legally owned? And he did legally own them, that is why they are forcing him to sell them, if ownership of them was illegal, they'd just confiscate them and that would be that.
Couple of wierd sentiments around where I live in Germany, "oh thank god, imagine if he had restored the engine and driven that thing into a neighbours house..." Well, a buddy of mine has a caterpillar, granted, few less tons and not quite the same hp, but still, should he be forced to sell it? Seems to be a case of "that's war stuff and I don't like that".

I Google World War 2 museums and can't find any. Is that not allowed in Germany? A museum of tanks and airplanes and weapons and uniforms and history of Nazi Germany during World War 2? WIKI has a list but they are not military museums.

I agree. It’s an irrational overreaction to events that occurred during WW 2.
