Well obviously gun nuts would say that, but there is no reason for a civilian to own that type of military firearm, not in a million years... I used to be in Recce and sniper platoon, and I certainly would not want to own that weapon, I'd have no reason to use one in civilian life. As was stated above, unless you were going to commit murder at great range, I'd say it's a good idea to keep it out of civilian hands. It's a bolt action rifle dude. Do you think civilians should be restricted to these? Oh wait!

Liberty is not about needing a reason to own something, but instead defined by, "because we can."

What makes it unsuitable for me to own? Tell me a single inherent difference between it and a Remington 700. It’s all about the appearance, isn’t it?

Unless you are in the army or marines why on earth would you even want a weapon like that? For the challenge? And it's not exactly a good gun for committing crime (with the obvious exception of murder at a distance), so I'm not sure why this question would even be asked here... Well obviously gun nuts would say that, but there is no reason for a civilian to own that type of military firearm, not in a million years... As was stated above, unless you were going to commit murder at great range, I'd say it's a good idea to keep it out of civilian hands. Then it might surprise you to learn that I've never owned a gun and have no plans to... Oh I've shot a few (starting at age 10), and had decent fun with that, even worked a temp summer job at a shooting range once, but shooting never interested me enough to start spending money on it. HUNTING could have interested me in my younger years, but back then if I had the money to get into it I certainly didn't have the time - and if I had the time I didn't have the money... (a lot of travel would have been required from where I lived)

That “hunting rifle” was carried by millions of Commonwealth troops through WW2, Korea, and beyond. I wouldn’t feel outgunned carrying one against someone armed with an AR, with very little practice anyone can take 20 aimed shots per minute and make 20 hits, and that’s including reload time (the magazine holds 10 rounds.)

With as common as body armour has gotten, I'd rather have a bigger round than the 5.56.
