Yeah it's a hell of a necro, but this sort of stuff stays relevant I think. Thanks for your list PM.

I've heard many guitarists whose name I never knew or cannot remember, but the ones that come to mind, for me, are:

Ry Cooder
Wilco Johnson
Jimmy Page
John Williams (not that one)
Bert Jansch

How can you tell if a stage is level?

The bass player is drooling out of both sides of his mouth biggrin

At this point I'd be happy to take my wife to another Brad Paisley concert just to watch *somebody* play!

Good list Red. I'd say you are a player, because most wouldn't know half of those names.

1. That shredding chick WangoTango posted is awesome!

2. I tried but can't do a listing like this, even with guitar almost always at the forefront of what I listen to. I'm more into a band's overall sound than any individual player and my favorite guitarists give their band that perfect unique sound regardless of their technical proficiency. I'm enjoying the thread anyway and I'm sure my top 10 guitarists have already been listed.

Link Wray. He either influenced most of the guitarists already mentioned. And those he didn't, he influenced the guys who influenced them.

I browsed through the posts...since my top 10 would mirror a lot of players already mentioned...thought I would put up a guy I don't think has been mentioned:

Ace Frehley of KISS

Some might chuckle at that...since KISS was more known for being "showmen" than actual talented musicians.

I was a KISS fan cause when they came around mid 70's...I was at that impressionable 3rd-4th grade age. Beyond the theatrics, the guy could shred and was what he needed to be at the time to help them achieve super-stardom.

I don't think he has stopped since 1986, when he became clean and sober. I saw his big comeback show in Detroit, Halloween night 1986. He surrounds himself with top notch talent. (maybe not 86, he had that ridiculous bodybuilder guitarist) Always has a killer band.

Yup, that struck me as well. It's both interesting and sad to see how many people are long gone from this site.

Les Paul Custom?

I have two LPs myself, the pic is floating around here in another thread, ah yes, here it is.....

[Linked Image]

On the left is a Les Paul Studio Plus. I think at the time Gibson was calling this finish Desert Burst, but today Desert Burst looks different, much lighter in the center. The Plus designation is for the flame maple top (the striping). On the right is a Les Paul Classic in Honey Burst, which is made to resemble an old Cherry Burst LP that sat too long in the music store window. This guitar is a 1960 reissue of sorts, but with uncovered ceramic humbuckers instead of PAF-style ones. It has 'aged' inlays that have a sort of greenish hue to them. The Studio is my number one.

Both LPs are top-wrapped as you might have noticed.

He also has a band called The Hollywood Vampires (named after his old dead drinking buddies, Hendrix, Morrison, Joplin, Brian Jones).
Members include Joe Perry and Johnny Depp.
