I want to give DCS a go, but only, if compared to the BoX series, I can clearly see the graphic improvements while using VR. Not at the outside of the plane as I always fly in VR but more thinking of a better cockpit and more 3D detail of the (damaged) wings view, clouds, skydome, reducement of all the shimmer & jaggies you see in BoX.
Did a search on youtube and did found a lot, only all very ancient, before the 2.7 update and not related to DCS-VR.
So my question is, if I wanting to go a step higher then BoX-VR in eye candy, is DCS-VR the right WW2 combat flysim?

Further, I wanting to know can DCS run on a AMD 6800XT, at full potential or is like in BOX a no go, because BOX is right now not being optimized for the new AMD RDNA2 6000 cards.

Can I compare the Free2play on steam to what I actually see in payware, because I found the Free2play (tryout a year ago) a bit disappointing, more of a vintage 2010 look.

Dutch, just download the game for free and try it. One of the free aircraft is a trainer version of the P51, it doesn't have guns, but it should be a good test to see how well your PC can run it.
I haven't had an AMD card in some time, but I was running DCS fine with an NVIDIA 2080 and I don't' know of a reason why the 66800XT wouldn't.

Video card is important of course but of greater importance is the CPU, RAM and the hard drive. You really need an SSD drive and 32 GB of RAM for optimal performance.

Does DCS really need 32 gigs of RAM? Because of the Liberation dynamic campaign, I'm actually considering grabbing a couple of jets now to give DCS a try again--but if 32 gigs of ram is required once in a real campaign mission, this is a no go for me then. Runs fine in instant action with 16 gigs of ram, though. Supposedly the performance suffers in an actual mission?

I can't test that yet, though, because I only have the original A-10C, not the II upgrade--I have Black Shark 2, but... that's not the best way to test anything.

Yes it does if you are playing any kind of mission with a lot of complexity and units in it or if you are using the Syria map at all. DCS will run with 16 BUT you will have much longer loading times and you will get frequent micro-pauses (ie stuttering) while in the mission.

Hmm, will these pauses occur while running on a SSD, too?

This is good to know and may be reason enough for me to hold off--Syria looks like an awesome map and a must have.

I've flown on it quite a bit and the terrain detail really is impressive. It's also a great map for helo pilots.

Yeah, 32Gb or bust, even with a fast SSD M2, on any complex mission.

That's a shame. frown

I was really tempted to buy the F-18 and Harrier, seeing how Liberation finally brings a dynamic campaign to the game. frown

I only have 16 gigs of ram, though, and runs flawlessly in instant action.

There's settings and different campaigns in Liberation. Running some of the smaller ones may still work with 16GB.

I went this weekend for the complete WW2 pack in the trail version.
Without doing any adjustments pure flying, I did saw much better clouds/sky dome, no dancing trees, still there is, but much lesser shimmer/jaggies then the whole (=optimized adjusted) IL2-BoX/FC series. While the terrain in BoX is looking very cartoonishly and contains lots off copy/paste 2D buildings the terrain in DCS looks more real life. I always wrote down, Because mainly flying high, I do not care about the terrain as long as the clouds & skydome are good, but now flying low on the maps I do have another opinion.

The only problem is that DCS-VR needs a real beefy system, my GTX1080 can not handle this without a real high overclock, even then my fpsVR shows always a red overload bar. Trying to get an 6800XT as unlike IL2, DCS seems not to have any problems in running this AMD6000 series card at full potential.
