I remember experiencing serious trepidation concerning this airplane, as someone who was always fascinated by Soviet equipment, capabilities and the threat posed by them, especially when younger. Our “military experts” screamed from the mountaintop about the threat posed by the Soviet TU-22. No doubt many gazillions were spent to counter this horrifying beast.
So, without further ado, I give you the TU-22, NATO code named Blinder…
But, the Russians who worked on and flew it had some other names for it. “Man-eater”; “Error-plane”, “Defectocraft”, and last but not least the “Supersonic Booze Carrier”. I will now appreciate air conditioning even a little more.
I wonder how bad their missiles were…our ours for that matter.
