I am a bit of a watch nut, with a small collection of my own. I browse some watch sites and forums, and today I came across this story of a Marine who was wounded in Vietnam, and the corpsman who treated him. The Marine had a Tudor (Rolex) diver’s watch on his arm, and a bullet that went through his arm also hit his watch, deforming the case. The corpsman took the watch of his wrist during treatment, and was told to keep it. 50 years later, they were reunited, and, as described in part 2 here, Tudor very graciously repaired and restored the watch, while keeping as many parts as possible in original condition. They also gifted the corpsman who kept the watch for 50 years a brand new Tudor Submariner, a very nice gesture.
The moment the new mainspring is put back in and the watch comes alive again is very nice to see. Almost like a heart that starts beating again. That watch is some heirloom to hand down through the generations of his family!
