I've not played any of their RPG's but then again I didn't play my first RPG until "Knights of the Old Republic" in 2003 so I missed out on the entire isometric RPG era.

Ah, the old school table top RPG's. I never played those. It was way too much reading and too many cardboard and plastic counters to keep track of. biggrin

I had first heard of table top RPGs in the early 80s, sometime around 1982, and thought to myself, "Neat!" but then realized all the work involved for calculating damage, etc. I enjoyed many board games in the meantime. Then, around 1986, a friend introduced me to "Bard's Tale" on the PC, and the rest is history. I became a CRPG junkie. Computers do that nasty computational legwork for me.

Still, that did not stop me from nearly memorizing the AD&D 2nd edition manual. I am a nerd and proud to admit this.

Board games for me in the 80's and early 90's mostly meant lots of Axis & Allies, chess and Trivial Pursuit. smile

Monopoly was my favorite, and I enjoyed others such as clue, chess, checkers and battleship. Then there were the graph paper games such as snake... I used to hustle those in grade school.

Same with me. As much as I enjoy RPGs today I was never interested in any of the board games or table top, nor was I involved in any of the D&D paper and pen stuff some of my friends were in to. I can still recall, back in high school when one of my friends proudly claimed to be a dungeon master. It was like he was from a different world. Wait, you're a what now?

I cite Atari's Adventure as my first RPG haha, even if it was nothing of the sort. Hey a key!

No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!

My Stepson was a D&D tabletop game player all those decades ago. He loves to compete at everything face to face -- and win. Now, he's a scratch golfer and competitive bowler.

I never was a face to face tabletop gaming person. Of course, not every one feels like me -- a good thing smile

Parenthetically, the fact that Baldur's Gate III is deliberately emphasizing the tabletop D&D rule set and deliberately has some tabletop look and feel turns me off a bit (I own the BGIII Early Access). I wanted BGIII to be a fully modern open world PC RPG. They have toned down the tabletop rule set aspect a little. I hope they allow turning on/off the tabletop visual aspects.

Metagaming had a much simpler game than D&D called the Fantasy Trip. Much less calculating involved. I see they're bring this back after 30 years of being out of print, but the price is highway robbery.
They had a bunch of other really cool simple games like Ogre, Ram Speed, Car Wars

That new TSR thing could be fun, but I haven't seen a tabletop RPG in the wild in a long time. I didn't even think people still played them.

I know a few people who do but it's undoubtedly a niche market. It's just like the people who buy and listen to vinyl records.

I had a once friend(no longer due to political reasons) not too long ago try and get me to come and play D&D tabletop. Apparently there's a cafe in the area that specializes in this sort of thing. I never went, though, never been one for public settings.

I still play and buy Wargames (boardgames) and theres new games coming out every month, you still have events and conventions all over the world too which means there´s alot of people who still buy, and play these games. Same goes with tabletop games, a bunch come out each month and again, alot of people play them.

You just have to know were to look. Places like Board Game Geek (BGG) are full of tabletop fans, and if a game is good enough, there´s plenty of videos on YT. See Arkham Horror for example, me and my grilfriend play it and it´s alot of fun, has alot of videos on YT, or Descent: Journeys in the Dark.

Guess who plays D&D...

There´s folks for tabletop, there´s just "underground" biggrin

While on the subject of tabletop, here´s a classic and a monster of a game!

Think of it as a 4X game but on a board biggrin
