Hi all, 'Hugh 'Bletchley' Baldwin has released two mission type mods (only fully tested for BH&H II). These mods enhance the general or defence missions briefings etc. The download is available in the 'User Mods Pages' (General page). General The page is dated 22nd June 2021. If you don't see that date in the header block of those pages, clear your internet cache or refresh the page.Mike

Hi Blade
It does three things:
1. It tweaks the existing mission set to give some more missions, particularly for reconnaissance/bomber units, to give greater historical variety.
2. It also introduces some 'weighting' to a career, making some missions more likely to be assigned than others, depending on the year and the front (quiet or active, interchangeable as the war progresses). So, for example, one of the new missions introduced for two-seater units is a spy dropping mission which is assigned only on quiet fronts and even then very rarely (1 in 20 chance). In the stock mission set, by contrast, there is an equal chance of getting every type of mission available from a generally much smaller set of missions that are available to that unit.
3. There is some background given in briefings that are generally lengthier and more varied, including additional instructions that you can follow or ignore as you wish, and the mission title that will appear as the main entry in your log book is in the language of that unit (English, German, French) and has been taken, in most cases, from actual mission names used historically instead of the rather generic ones in English that is given to the stock missions.
Not as easy to describe as to experience! You can switch back to stock missions if you install them but find you don't like them, just by using the 3rd Party Mission Types switch in Workshop (or more permanently by deleting the Mission Types file).

Hi Bletchley Quick question re your mission types mods, your readme for the defence mission types says I should have a dir in my CampaigData dir named "DefenceMissionTypes". I have no such folder ! Is this correct mate? I do have a DefenceMissionTypes file that sits in the CampaignData parent dir, however there is only one. Therefore my guess is only one nationality can be activated at a time, correct? I am looking for a way to make this JSGME compatible but the directory structures don't match. Any help please mate, or am I just being dumb Best regards. Fube

Hi Fubat,
Yes, you replace the stock DefenceMissionTypes file with the national one of your choice from the MOD. Make sure that you keep a copy of the stock file so that you can return to it if necessary (or use JSGME). The Defence Mission Types MOD contains 4 folders, you just choose the one that you want according to your pilot's nationality (British, French, German, US) and use the file that it contains to replace the stock file of the same name - DefenceMissionTypes. These files all contain the same missions as the stock file, it is just the mission names that have been converted into the appropriate language so that they appear in that language as the primary entry within your pilot's log book. By doing so it complements the log entries generated by the larger Mission Types MOD, which are also in the appropriate language for the pilot's nationality - so that for a German pilot, for example, the log entries don't slip back into English when the staffel reverts to flying defence missions (which just looks a bit odd). From the Readme:
1. Unzip this zipped folder to a temporary place on your PC. 2. You should have an unzipped folder 'Defence Mission Types' and this Read me. Inside this 'Defence Mission Types' folder there should be 4 subfolders :
'Britain' 'France' 'Germany' 'USA'.
Inside each of these there should be one 'DefenceMissionTypes' file. 3. At C:\OBDSoftware\WOFF\OBDWW1 Over Flanders Fields\campaigns\CampaignData (change this appropriately if you installed WOFF to somewhere else of course) you will find a folder 'DefenceMissionTypes'. Delete this folder after first copying it to somewhere safe Paste the relevant national 'DefenceMissionTypes' folder into the CampaignData folder. So you end up with this : C:\ OBDSoftware\WOFF\OBDWW1 Over Flanders Fields\campaigns\CampaignData\DefenceMissionTypes
Then Exit WOFF back to desktop and restart WOFF.
5. Now you should see the national 'defence mission' types.
To return to stock defence mission types, just reverse the procedure.
I don't see any mention of a dir file there (?). You can only have one at a time in JSGME, if you use JSGME, as all 4 files have the same name - as they replace the stock file of the same name.

Bletchley's previous Mission mod is simply brilliant! I used to use it all the time, back before tweaking cloud files became my obsession. You can also edit it to taste, for example, by reducing some of those Allied airfield attack missions if you are in a scout squadron that is not equipped with bombs or rockets. This new version looks even better! Thanks, B.

Oh, I can see my error now Fubat - I refer to the DefenceMissionTypes file as a folder in the Readme. It is a file, not a folder. I will change that, thanks for pointing it out!
B. Thanks for clarifying mate Best regards. Fube

Hi Becker, I have only just downloaded 1.22 and have yet to try it, so I don't know. At a guess I would say that some of the mission briefings may be redundant, or may need to be changed, and it is possible the whole MOD is redundant. I will post again when I have tried it with/without Edit: I have 1.22 up and running now and although my Bomber/Recon missions will still work after a fashion they are no longer picking up briefings from the missions files, so my advice would be to not bother with the MOD but stick to the Recon Wars default for now! I will have another look after flying the Recon Wars default missions for a bit, but for now I would recommend not using 3rd Party Missions for 2-seater careers. I have not tried a fighter career yet with 1.22 so I can't comment on how 1.22 may have effected a fighter career using my mission MOD. I will check that out at some point and post again later.
