I lived in a 1 br old house on blocks there for almost 10 yrs, prior to that I commuted back to Florida or was "furniture" at a neat little local hotel/diner/bar for over 5 years prior to that.
Miss the place actually...

Nixer, were you eating a lot of seafood down there?
Man, this storm is moving fast and has already pulled away from us. Went outside a while ago with wife and parents to a gorgeous pink sky sunset with nice breeze and perfect temps. But you could see the dark gray cloud movement of the outskirts of the storm miles in the distance, kind of creepy.

When I worked in deep water the occasional yellow fin tuna would "jump" onto the boat. Dolphin (mahi mahi) also.

Time of year again. This one is weak and curving to the east of me, so not concerned. Still got everything ready (porch furniture secured, gas containers filled, generator ready, playlist queued, etc.).

Yep, we got absolutely nothing from this one but a preparation drill which is always a good way to start the season.

It is what it is. All we can do in the hurricane zone is be well prepared. The last thing we need to do is act like the sensationalist attention-whoring news media!

If predictions hold, some of us are going to feel this one...

1. If you want to be added to my potential hazardous hurricane map just let me know (I forget the poster who lives in "NW Alabama".) 2. Where has RK been lately? 3. Eventually I'll expand my hurricane map to include other areas and posters (the obvious including FL and the Carolinas).

All you guys are pretty far from the coast; thankfully, but you guys have had a bunch of rain dumped on you lately and this is the last thing you need.
I lived farther south in Golden Meadow, surrounded by a big, very well maintained levy. Hurricane Rita, right on the tails of Katrina, almost topped that levy, they added about five feet (was over twenty feet) after that.
You life long LA guys know the drill. Be safe my friends.
Sure am glad I am not still living in Golden Meadow in my little shack on blocks...

[Re: Nixer]
You're absolutely correct Nixer, about being far enough from the coast to not be in any real danger, aside from a freak storm-related occurrence (tornado, extreme flash flooding or falling tree). It's the coastal areas which can be truly dangerous (as you know), and I expect my sister and husband will probably leave town (Morgan City) if these predictions continue.
What concerns me a little is that, at current predictions (which can certainly change), we're in the path of the eye and of what might be a major-strength hurricane. That's where you don't want to be, or to the east of the storm. West is much better, as in my earlier pic where we were right on the western border and hardly felt it. Plus, as you noted, and as I also noted mowing my grass today, the ground is already saturated.
So I'm not *that* concerned right now, but enough to be preparing and posting about it on a Friday evening (although I'm listening to my storm playlist).
Oh yeah, I'm currently unpacking my new UPS from Costco (for my workstation desktop), which can also charge devices...

Over prepare Mark, as there is really no such thing
You got this man..

In addition to my regular survival essentials plastic container which is continually refreshed (something I started after the 2016 flood), as well as regular camping gear, including one of these (shouldn't be needed with a relatively new septic tank system)...
...my kitchen table is well organized with supplies (just out of pic) including batteries, flashlights, LED lamps, a weather-band radio, etc. Generator is standing by (enough to keep freezers functioning and to charge UPS/devices, make coffee). I will miss hot breakfasts though...
House has two attic hot water heaters (one for both bathrooms, another for kitchen and half bath) which keeps water hot for about three days after power is cut (and wife knows not to take her regular 20 min. scalding Hollywoods), so at least we shouldn't have to take cold showers unless power is out for longer than that.
So...we’re ready. It'll be interesting to see if the backyard barn cupola eagle weather vane survives.

I just know certain former friends of mine in Golden Meadow are staying.
I just lost touch with most of them over time.
I just hope most get smart and evacuate ... or already have from the looks of the traffic I have seen.
The 5 PM update moved the center of the cone east... right over Baton Rouge
I think I was just hit by a very easterly rain band for this thing in W, Central Florida, N of Tampa.
Go here and zoom the Radar out to see Atlanta and Cuba. Put it into motion.
The whole eastern gulf is circulating, including out into the Atlantic! Don't remember seeing that before.
You sound as ready as you can be Mark.

Mark. Do you have the MyRadar app for a smart phone or Tablet? It's free and I love it. Add the hurricane tracker thing for a one time $3- $4, well worth it.

Just watched the FEMA Administrator blabbing about social distancing, Covid precautions, ad nauseum with a Cat 4 Hurricane probably coming ashore in LA tomorrow.
