Where did all of this anti-Amazon sentiment come from? Aren't most of us here strong supporters of the free market system?
Or perhaps Amazon is the current trendy punching bag for people who want to complain about how business works? I'm sure Walmart is relieved that it's no longer the trendy punching bag.

You have to assess those on a case by case basis. There are indeed cases where the film deviated a lot from the novel and it was a box office flop such as Dune.
With the LOTR films, they are universally praised by both critics and the public and they were all huge box office successes. As for things like Tom Bombadil? Who cares if that superfluous storyline was left out? It had nothing to do with the quest for the ring which was the dramatic "hook" for audiences.

I'd watch that. Denzel is one of those actors who is always great and memorable even when cast in a crappy movie.

Unless maybe they digitally de-age him, I can't see a 66 year old Denzel Washington playing a young Harris.

"Out of Time" was a very forgettable movie but he definitely made the most of his role. I also didn't care much for "Virtuosity".
In addition to Glory, Crimson Tide, Philadelphia I would also list "Man on Fire". The ending of that movie gets me every time.

I liked the movies, but I see no need for a series the length of Game of Thrones.
As a writer, I realize what lengths must be stretched in order to generate plot, characters or filler to justify such an endeavor. 481,000 words may seem like a lot, but when it comes to a series 54% as long as "Game of Thrones,"(8 episodes so far first season, 5 seasons minimum confirmed, so ~40 episodes vs. 73 and 1.77 million words with one missing book, so add in 300k more so 2.07 million words, or 1.11 million equivalent at 54%), 619,000 more words will have to be fabricated for those first five seasons. That's more filler than the entirety of the original series!
One doesn't simply stretch the content without adding or changing things--unless they add nonstop, nonsensical action sequences such as they did with the Hobbit, which was a farce.

The Hobbit is an entirely different matter and I agree with you on this 100%! I think it was the second Hobbit film which had the chase scene on the river? Holy cow, that river chase scene seemed like it would never end and the antics and stunts you see performed really made it seem like a video game. Ridiculous indeed.

I don't even know what too make of this. I remember liking the series when I read it ages ago. Could be good, but I've seen too many poor book adaptations to be overtly optimistic.

I'm a big fan of the "Foundation Trilogy" so I will give this a shot. I'll have a pretty good idea of whether I like it or not after 3 or 4 episodes.

I somewhat enjoyed Brave New World recently although it's not accurate to the book, I suspect Foundation could be similar in that respect. Possible to enjoy, but not accurate to the book aside from basic premise.

I know this very well. "Dune" by David Lynch deviates in so many ways from the Frank Herbert novel but I still like the film very much mostly due to the unique surreal touch that Lynch added to that universe.

She destroyed her A list career by pissing off two really big names in Hollywood. She’s still working but she’s permanently on the B list now.
