What a difference a little colour makes... It gives a different perspective to these well known pilots.

Is it just me, or does Boelcke look like Mark Hamill in the original Star Wars?

SALUTE TO ALL!

Fantastic pictures thanks for posting.

I like the one of Max Immelmann, even the dog and each individual medal is immaculate.

"A great deal of an aeroplane could be holed without affecting its ability to fly. Wings and fuselage could be—and often were—pierced in 50 places, missing the occupants by inches (blissfully unaware of how close it had come until they returned to base). Then the sailmaker would carefully cover each hole with a square inch of Irish linen frayed at the edges and with a brushful of dope make our aircraft 'serviceable' again within an hour."

Colour really does add a new dimension. Much more human, rather than just snaps in a folder. Thank you Trooper.

I wouldn't say he looks like Hamill, but he looks like somebody Hamill would play in a movie...if that makes sense. Especially Empire Strikes Back-era.

This is a far less professional rendering, but I always thought this photo of Raymond Collishaw always looked like a 1960s teen idol pop singer.

That photo of Collishaw makes him look like Elon Musk.. lol.

The send shot of MvR is by far the best colorization job I've seen yet. It's haunting to see him look so alive with skin shading and facial hair areas properly accounted for. That's a true artist at work whomever did it.

Some of these are amazing and some simply look like color patches screened over to where even the shading carried the colors. But even so....it's very humbling to see these men as we would see each other. Black and white photos always give you that "lost era" feeling. But when they are colorized, suddenly the photo takes on a new personality.

Thanks for sharing/posting these.
