Hi folks. I'm usually hanging around in the EECH forums, but as my other hobby is model flying I thought I pop in here.

I've flown electric foamies a bit with my son, but today I picked up an old Precedent T180. I think I'll have to do a bit of restoration on it, but looking forward to getting it flying.

Now that's cool.

The opinions of this poster are largely based on facts and portray a possible version of the actual events.

I've had a better look at it, and decided I'm going to remove all the covering to check it our properly, then recover with a nicer colour scheme.

Will you keep us posted as you recover her?

Balsa construction, while interesting, has always been out of my patience zone.

Yeah, I can do. I need to build a worktable in my garage first, so it'll be a few weeks before I start stripping the covering off. In the meantime, I stripped down the engine I'd bought, and found it's scrap metal. There's internal damage, so it's unusable. My son is now using the piston and rod as a keyring biggrin

Groovy, Look forward to the resto. If your flying skills are anything like mine, you'll need a ladder...and a back up plane biggrin

I tried the balsa plane route when I was a young teenager. Didn’t have the patience. So my build when from very good at the beginning to poor as I tried to hurry to finish. Crashed it on second flight and it was write-off. That ended it for me.

I've built a few foam electric planes last year, but didn't fly them due to lockdown and they're still in storage. I might get them out this summer, but the last I checked, the white one had its tail snapped off which must have happened in storage.

There's some more photos of the T180 here if anyone wants a closer look before I get started.

My Dad still builds and flies the old "slimers" as they are called. Cleaning the "slimey" fuel of of them after flight is a bit of a pain. Here is one of my Dad's "classics". I'm not sure sure if this is an old Goldberg, or a Fairlane, or Falcon. I used to knows these all very well.

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

Thanks KK. My memory is not what it used to be. I didn't even remember that post from earlier either. Still, love the old balsa wood RC planes.

I did a 'search web for image'.

What did you think of the video of the rubber powered I posted?

I've not updated on here as I ended up joining an RC forum and posting progress on there and getting help from folks.

But I created an Instagram to post progress if anyone's interested.

I made this build thread some time ago, some of you guys might find it interesting.

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.
This is known as "bad luck.”

I miss the smell of running glow motors.

Yeah they did. Some of the old fuel was pretty hot... as in Nitro Methane.
