salute

What a tremendous, and costly undertaking for freedom it was.

My deepest respects.

Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

Respect. My grandfather lived through his landing on D-Day. I have his letter from Eisenhower framed. From speaking to him when he was alive I still don't know if he was happy he lived through it or not.

A generation I doubt we will see again.

I had no relatives involved in WW II but that doesn’t diminish at all the importance of the Normandy campaign to me.

I'm a day late and this is a repost from earlier years, but once again here's Ronald Regan at Pointe Du Hoc for the 40th anniversary:

RossUK, i understand. My father was in the Army Air Force, and he ended up on Okinawa, after the Marines secured it. As much as he knew how fascinated I was with WWII events, he would never talk about it. Neither did my 2 uncles. I did hear about 1 Uncle, who was a .50Cal gunner, about his mission attacking Germans holed up in a town in France. He gave me the 5 minute version. Done. Never wanted to talk about it again.

In my defense, I was left unsupervised...
