I have not played Lock On or DCS in years but I was watching a video of the latest DCS stuff and had my memory jogged. I remembered a Falklands sim in the works. I haven't heard anything in a long time on it. For some reason I was thinking it wasn't that many years ago but I found their Youtube channel with videos starting at 13 years ago! I can't believe its been that long already. I took a look at their latest video from six years ago and translating some posts, it appears that the individual programming it passed away which was sad to see. I vividly remember getting excited with those low level A-4 videos. Looking at the videos again its also hard to believe it doesn't look the way I remember it looking. I suppose its because of all the time that has gone by since its announcement and technology has increased since then. I was just curious if anyone else remembers this. I think I even recall seeing an article on it in a magazine but I could be just misremembering that. Even if it never sees fruition its another little cool piece of combat flight sim history that the programmer contributed with their efforts and time. It'd be nice to find out about some of the individuals and development history behind it. I remembered their little logo intro too after all this time.

I remember it Coot. I really wanted a modern sim based on the Falklands campaign.

To me it looked like a worthy successor to Super VGA Harrier (if anyone remembers that) by Domark, where you took command of a marine expeditionary force in an attempt to occupy West Timor.

The only hope left for a Falklands experience is Combat Air Patrol 2 (such a scenario was briefly discussed by the dev on Steam) but development is sloooow. I fired that up the other day after a long absence to find they've added a V-22 Osprey. Not sure why, getting the game finished would have been a better uses of resources.

I hear the Falkland Islands is coming to DCS. This isn't the video I heard it on (I can't find that now) but there is a discussion with the developers:

I'd definitely be interested in playing a Falkland's War flight sim. It's been ages since I've flown a Harrier and I've never flown any of the planes the Argentinians used. I believe they were mostly using the Super Etendard, A-4 Skyhawk and the Mirage?

I certainly remember looking forward to it and being sad that it never materialised. I find it odd that the Falklands aren't featured more prominently in games, I think it would be a very interesting setting for a strategy game.

There is a Falklands mod for the Thirdwire series sims. My copy of CAP2 has been sitting there for a few years now, waiting for some actual missions to be played... So it would seem that DCS has become the best bet now.

Quite honestly I'm not. Outside of history/flight sim geeks like us on SimHQ it's mostly a forgotten war.

That would be great for the Falklands to come to DCS (it might even be a day 1 purchase for me) but we'd need a Sea Harrier of course.

I've been wondering how CAP2 is coming along. Weird that they would spend time on an Osprey when the primary aircraft and campaign I would think should take priority especially for the folks who've already supported it. Isn't that sim a one man team though more or less? That can't be an easy title to develop especially alone.

Coot,I just spotted that there is also a flyable A-400M,Sikorsky SH-60 Seahawk and a KC-767 but a quick go reveals some pretty low-rent cockpits.

I'm sure it's a one-man team but the constant 'feature creep', adding new stuff (who asked for those additional aircraft?) and from a cursory glance at the forums a lot of dissatisfaction.

I've actually been to the Falklands a few times, and what I will predict is a LOT of performance from a Falklands map smile

Heh. I just checked out of curiosity and the current population of the Falkland Islands is just under 3,400. I think my townhouse development/neighborhood has almost as many people. biggrin

Yep, and two-thirds of them are all in one place smile

Also - no trees.

I remember looking forward to this for a very long time, and being quite let down. I also had high hopes for Combat Air Patrol 2; how can this project be around for so long and make so little progress?

At least giving up on these meant more time to spend on DCS.

I was very much looking forward to Jet Thunder. Has it really been 13 years?!
It looked pretty good for its time, I’d say. These days I am blown away by how DCS looks even on medium-high settings. Having a blast with the Viggen at low altitude in inclement weather.

I was also thinking a Sea Harrier and a Falklands map for DCS would be nice! smile

In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!
