Watched Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves again. It was as bad as I remembered.
Bad contrived plot Very bad casting Very, very bad acting
Can’t think of anything redeeming about the movie. And I usually really like Costner movies.
Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

You wouldn't even be able to manage that with today's transport Old Luv! Agreed with Pnzer though, Rickman seemed to relish his over-the-top portrayal as the sherriff!

Sometimes good actresses pick bad projects.
It's called a paycheck.

I saw two movies last weekend:
1) "Tenet" Yawn. Or that's what my mouth said the last half hour of the film, where I fell asleep because I knew that everything would end well and the good guy would get his girl, etc. etc. I figured the movie out less than a quarter way through, actually, and from there the picture was a fun house ride where I knew the jump scares couldn't hurt me. Nolan tried yet again to confuse and complicate matters by rattling off points and alternate points at light speed, as if to flood and overwhelm the average brain into overload. Through submission, I suppose he figures he can wow because once shut down, the feeble brain audience would proclaim, "Wow! How'd he do that!" Tenet wasn't a bad film, but it was not a great film, either. I'd say it was pretty average as far as popcorn action movies go, despite the "try to confuse you time reversal plot mechanic" which was simply a redefining of the matter/antimatter relationship of our universe. Nolan loves this time crap, but he frankly should be checked by a physicist now and then who could cement the dude back into reality and allow him to produce some truly mind blowing, brilliant plots. Tenet is not one of those. ** 1/2 stars out of ****.
2) "International Falls" Independent film, so out of the gate there was promise. Plenty of quirky dialogue and character interactions abound in a slow conversation driven piece. This was not a bad film, but for a comedy I had to wait until basically the end before I started laughing. Maybe I found a grin here or there, but the subject matter the film dealt with--infidelity, affairs and cheating, was very dense. I suppose to a morally ambiguous viewer they might find lots of humor, but to someone who believes in loyalty to one's spouse... not so much. I have a hard time with folks whom are so blase with cheating--as if the oath they made at the altar or courthouse steps meant nothing. This film tries to justify such affairs with--"He did it first! So it's alright I do it, too!" What follows is the fastest divorce settlement in history, and in the matter of a week their nearly triple decade partnership with kids is signed away by a judge and set free as doves searching for love they are sent on their way. Yes, I'm biased, but I don't like watching spouses cheat without dire consequences. The damage to their children, for example, is hardly even explored. This wasn't supposed to be a serious movie, I suppose--more on the fargo vein, but without the murder and killing, so alas it meanders into a final, funny, stand up conclusion. That's what the film was advertised, after all--well, on the one line I read--a lady trying to find her voice in the comedy circuit. Not bad, not great, overall a fair movie, so ** 1/2 out of ****.

Pretty much, Panzer. But the complications are flash and parlor tricks, not true complexity.

I finished Ozark season 1 last night... Good ending for the season, but I must say that episode 9 almost jumped the shark and passed the believability envelope when several characters saw their IQ jump 50 points. The plausibility index was shattered. I guess this is what they call good writing these days? I don't believe that Breaking Bad every passed plausibility, but Ozark sure has. Those who have seen the show will know what I'm talking about. Otherwise, season 1 was good, and their constant feeding characters poop sandwiches was nice to see--especially ones that weren't easily solved at the beginning of the next episode... something that Homeland was very guilty of. Episode 10 saw an antagonist utter one of my favorite lines of the entire season. Those who've seen the "redneck" scene will likely know what I'm speaking of. Season 2 starts on Sunday.
