...when you take advantage of calm seas to bring in your external torpedo reloads, in an area within range of A/S aircraft but unable to submerge quickly...

There were two Whitleys working us over, the only saving grace being that I had ordered the flak guns manned during the torpedo transfer.

This depth charge went off somewhere below the boat and all but lifted us out of the water.

Wow, that's a pretty epic series of pictures 33lima. You're making me want to hop into a subsim again especially SH3 which has been years. I'm just a bit unsure of and a bit overwhelmed by the install procedure for an old Starforce copy. I know you posted some great help earlier so I may look at that. I had recently tried SH5 a few years ago with some mods but somehow my Steam copy stopped working. I may be tempted to take a look at SH4 again with a mod if you have any recommendations? I suppose Fall of the Rising Sun is the big one. Sorry to blabber on. You take some excellent shots. I'm really antsy for SH3 though.

Thanks Coot!

Fiedler's instructions on how to get up and running with Starforce SH3 are here: http://www.donitzeliteflotilla.com/forum/index.php?topic=3058.0 - works with any version of Windows, not just 10. Key point is do NOT run the game after installation, until the 3-step process is completed and the Starforce fix is applied. There are lot's of other 'how to' solutions to common problems in the same DEF 'Collected Actual Help' forum.

For an easy way to get re-started with SH3, try GWX OneAlex Edition from the download link under his intro video...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhL1C-WDRWA&t=29s

Install using the simple instructions in the readme. Start a training mission - any single mission may do but that's what I've seen recommended - then quit (this creates the separate folder in My Documents used to store career files). And you're good to go with a recent update of (probably) the most popular SH3 mega-mod. Comes complete with 1920x1080 widescreen and the excellent German U-Boat Compilation (more detailed boats than original GWX, with features like 'crew on deck - not recommended outside port for obvious reasons!).

Water streams from the drain holes on your boat's casing.

Bridges are superb, with the rotating UZO sight only there when you command it to be fitted...

[Linked Image]

...interiors excellent, with an opening hatch between control room and the radio/sound compartment/officer's accommodation...

[Linked Image]

...and the merchantmen look great and are more varied, and there are volumetric clouds.

[Linked Image]

The mod includes optional skins for Types VII and IX...

[Linked Image]

...and the GWX harbour traffic is there, including your escort out of port, as seen here beyond the moored vorpostenboot....

SH5 I got only recently and haven't really tried it yet. the Wolves of Steel (TWOS) is recommended for that which I have, but even so it doesn't seem as good as SH3. My SH4 is still in shrink wrap! So can't suggest much there, tho the official add-on for the Monsun Pacific U-boats would be a must-have for me.

Sign up for the Doenitz Elite Flotilla... http://www.donitzeliteflotilla.com/HTML/index.html ...if you want the added immersion of a human BdU/Flotilla Chief giving orders and communicating, there is even an optional simulated Enigma for coding and uncoding radio traffic, plus mediafire space for patrol pics and various tools for stuff! All the benefits of SP with a role-playing, MP-like element. You can see the efforts of other Kommandanten which have been put on public display after completion here, including my first patrol with U-105 (more detail and losts more pics than the shortened, more narrative version posted on SimHQ): http://www.donitzeliteflotilla.com/forum/index.php?board=6.0

Good hunting!

Thank you Lima for those links. I remember trying Grey Wolves years ago but I don't think it was up to the level of what you're showing. I was going to ask about those clouds as I never remembered those. I didn't know they worked in volumetric clouds! That's pretty cool among all the other features.
