I will have both. A separate, zero financial info yayhoo account, watch my YouTube, SimHQ etc. Also a my $500 beaucoup virtual card numbers card. The real me, a brand new different computer, no google anything, yes AdBlock, yes, Privacy badger. VPN on ALWAYS (Oh Hi, it's beautiful here in Budapest), ZERO Bank info. Basically, two Nix's. The old public Nix you and the Feds love to hate... And, the other guy, who has a Croatian IP and thinks Joe Biden is a former rocket scientist, still supporting smell-a-vision.

I have always had a deliberately clean machine. No daily interactions (none) except by email (send to trash/unopened anything that is not from a known/trusted source) and browser (with maximum blocking turned on) -- and Steam, of course None of the popular communication apps (except Zoom/Skype briefly for a few times during COVID -- disabled otherwise). No "cloud" interactions. Virtually everything that wants to start at PC startup is "Disabled" with W10 Task Manager. My router presumably blocks/filters certain types of unwanted activity. So far, its working. As previously noted, 2 viruses in the last ~25 years -- and one of those I spotted (a fake Amazon email) but clicked just to check my reasoning. I won't be shocked if they "infect" me again -- heck, its their vocation

I don't believe your card was leaked from Amazon. I've seen nothing about any data breaches there. Chances are, you used your card somewhere else, and the digits were stolen then - and used on Amazon. My bet is they were hoping to catch the goods on your doorstep before you noticed.

The "goods" were junk. Most of the money charged, $330 ish was to three bogus Go Fund Me's, $110 each.
"I've seen nothing about any data breaches there". You think they would tell anyone?
Again, someone used my on file debit card number, on an account not associated with me at all, to send stuff to ME at my on file address.
Still no answer from Amazon on how that was allowed to happen. All my money is back in my account.
Everything I use online is now set up with virtual card numbers. A few extra clicks but meh, well worth it.

Nixer-did you use your card at a gas pump. I don't even use my card at the gas pump. Criminals can put a camera to catch you entering your billing info and a fake keypad to record your card #.
Even at the store when it's necessary for me to use my card, I grab hold of the terminal key pad and pull it real hard several times to make sure there is not a fake one on top of it. Not used for gas in awhile, not using much with my new bike. Thing is, any of the things you described would not give them my address, which they had to ship that junk to me. Changed my passwords at all my financial sites, and emails also. Quite a bit of work actually.

Update: My bank has credited me all the fraudulent debits back to my account, a little over $300. Also, Go Fund Me has already returned the funds that were credited to them to my bank! Fast work. A little more info about my Capital One card and it's virtual card capability. A little window pops up in the right hand of my screen whenever any online sites wants payment info. Easy peasy. I have other cards that offer virtual cards, but nothing close to being as easy as Capital One's Eno. I just use it for anything I want online, and then just pay off that amount when due. I am basically using it as a super secure debit card. I used it yesterday for a couple of cool T-shirts I have wanted that were on sale, it's just soooo simple for an extra layer of security.

Yes, but on the other hand, I just a text message informing me that because of my excellent credit rating I am eligible for a special credit card.
Man, isn’t life great ?

Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

Man, isn’t life great ? A few years ago my credit was so bad "in the toilet" would have been an improvement. And I was getting those the whole time.
SALUTE TO ALL!

So far I haven't had any issues with Amazon, and never use my debit card. My credit card company has made it clear on multiple occasions that I am not responsible for any fraudulent purchases, so I believe they are about as safe as is possible with an online purchase. if your bank allows use virtual card, its even better.

I have 2 new credit card offers this this week. AMEX and some other big five cards.
My actual REAL income is zero, but I do get my EARNED social security, along with leftover college money. I have never overstated my income to any of these banking entities and my current available credit on my cards is now pushing $30k. I really just have it in reserve in case I get really sick and decide to do a big last fling (hopefully). I am in no way a big online shopper, very curious as to how and why I was targeted.
