Took the leap, Wingy. Was having issues with the FDev store, but that went away. Only logged in to see if my bindings got borked, happy to say not. Haven’t done anything else yet. Will try and get on this week, weekend is out due to road trip to Scottsdale.

400 miles down the I Four O, West.

Looking forward to your impressions Bo. Of Odyssey, not Scottsdale.

It's interesting to see most holding off so far. I would have thought I was one of the few.

I waited seven years for space legs, so no more waiting here. To me, this is the cherry on top, being free to exit my ship and walk around the planet surface. Now scale has true meaning.

I say this while admitting I am also a SpaceEngine junkie, who has spent many hours floating from planet to planet. In SpaceEngine there's no hyperspace pain.

He could choose 117 and have lunch in El Malpais.

Have downloaded Odyssey, but I have been busy in Synuefe land to farm some Guardian stuff.
Some Guardian structures have quite a few sentinels. Espescially at the vessel blueprint site. I found that it was a good idea to race back to my Cutter and use my big guns to get rid of them. Works like a charm. biggrin

Anybody with bindings for a Microsoft Force Feed back 2?

Ah, the scenic route. Bo's looking for expediency this time I would reckon smile

But a pizza from Surf Shack on E. Stephens Street might be a good idea too. Or maybe a steak from La Ventana?

Scenic routes always preffered here.

Granted, a twenty-one day aged sterling silver black angus beef with mashed potatoes and a bowl of steamed veg at La Ventana is also tempting.
Pizzas may be better in other states. But that is individual taste I suppose. biggrin

I thought I would be all over this, but I'm pretty meh about it. I guess what I wanted, what I really wanted, was the ability to wander around inside my ship in VR. Neither can be done right now it seems :/

Walking around planets is amazing, and gives a much better sense of scale than in ship or SRV.

This peak is 2 km tall:

This crater is over 3 - 4 km deep and who knows how wide:

And this is starting to approach Star Citizen quality... Not there yet, though.

I am playing Odyssey right now. Some serious stability issues in th e first days, mostly server side, I guess. Got lucky in finding some fairly good suits and weapons to buy, well, wasn't just luck but I used the APEX shuttle to travel to many different ground bases while working in home office in parallel (minimum distraction by using the shuttle and switching when there are a few minutes time).
Did a bunch of missions and visited other planet-side (bio sites, new other to visit). But in true Elite manner, it seems they have added a significant new grind if you intent to upgrade you new gear. And certain engineering items seem not to be available by drops or trade, but just from missions - and there mostly in homeopathic doses.

I mean the actual new missions and combat zones (those that I mainly tried and which work) are reasonably fun, the food combat I got used too and works fairly well. But if you hope to assemble the stuff you need for upgrades while just playing regularly, good luck... You need to visit/loot specific places, do a lot of missions for specific reward items, etc...

Is it fun, all that?

Reading the Frontier boards I see a lot of posts about bugs and things no longer working correctly. I guess some of this is to be expected, but it maybe seems a bit excessive, or maybe it's just the impression I have based on what little I have read. And these things aren't just new features from the expansions, but that it broke some things from before.

I'll give it some seasoning time.

The combat on foot and generally walking around on planets, facilities, and stations is fun.
The trouble is more with the tedium of another grind for a phletora of new materials.
That's beside the stability issues, and some trouböes with new interfaces like the system and galaxy maps...

Someone mentioned on Steam you can get a Viper to go over 750 m/s, so I messed around in edsy for a while and could find no way to do this.

How?

This one would boost 874.

Of course I just mocked it up to go fast, nothing else it could do in this trim.

Viper

If you mean four-pip 750 and not boost then that's going to be harder to achieve. Maybe some undersized core modules.

What is that magic "enhanced performance" module? I do not see this on edsy.

Edit: Nevermind. I see it now, but didn't realize it was something I could click on and add to my ship. Those are sold by special modification merchants?

Right, and sold by several engineers, I think it is Farseer, Martuuk, Sedesi, Mel Brandon and Palin.

With a ship this light and with these thrusters, Drive Distributors is the faster experimental. My Courier and iEagle both use this set up.

EP Thrusters have lowered optimal mass, lowered further by dirty drives, making their suitability a narrow window. It's just 87t in that mockup. But if you can build the ship to take advantage, it can be very fast, obviously.

This is my fastest ship, the iEagle, which I use as a wake scanner. Just zip around outside the station from wake to wake. It's pretty fun, this much speed, and I love boosting past the station or the ship that left the slot just ahead of me.

I check the contacts tab for a new wake, target it then boost, and in most cases have to almost immediately start hitting the brakes lol. Wakes are fleeting, so having a ship like this to close them down so quickly means fewer get away.

For those old guys like me who move slowly engineering "Extended Range" G5 allows us to remain in our wheel chairs scanning at distance. Young whipper snapper! wink

I posted this on Steam, but I thought I'd share:

Yesterday I was running a few system missions on foot to get some reputation, when lo and behold a crack team of criminal mercenaries jumped me during a data dump. I was way outnumbered so I hopped into my DBX packing 3x plasma accelerators(this ship is a mule) and decided I'd melt some merc stew...

So I fired at them.

And I fired.

And I wore my trigger out, pumping hot plasma onto the surface all around them.

And not a single one of them fell. There, they stood, jubilant that my massive bolts of superheated plasma scorched a few pebbles, here and there, but none hurt them, not even the globs that landed beside their toes. It wasn't until I finally managed to peg one deadeye did they fall, and that is none too easy a feat, even in a DBX--which has superb groupings.

I was sad. Wouldn't a powerful, fully engineered size two powerhouse such as a plasma accelerator do damage beyond the single pixel width they impact?

Apparently not.

These suck for shooting ground targets, and despite the fireworks, they have far more bark than bite.

I believe that is a deliberate design decision Mr B, to prevent players always doing what you were trying to do smile I seem to remember reading or hearing about that earlier this year.

I kind of hope that this new FPS mode is a precursor to other much more interesting & engaging activities in the future. I guess the hardest part is done - getting the FPS tech into release - and now they can put some effort into making interesting & engaging FPS scenarios. My personal preferences are ship exploring, and procedural planet with life/civilization exploring.
