Hi to all,

As a fan of all Jane's simulatios more than 20 years after they were launched, I'd like to know your opinion about F-15 flight model and physics, mainly because I am about to buy DC Design MSFS model. I always found Jane's F-15 model very challenging, and to be honest, I still love it. But I have never ever found a flight model similar in other softwares, as Milviz and of course DCS. I'd like to hear your opinion on Jane's model and, if someone already has it, on DC Desing addon.

Jane's model is very simplified and old, probably doesn't closely match the charts, either. It was simply the best they could do with the information and technology available at the time.

The DCS FM is very realistic (although it is deficient in dry thrust above 20000', reported to ED) and if you want to understand what an F-15E would kinda fly like, put on full fuel, 3 bags, all the missiles you can strap onto it and fly around like that. And set the fuel to unlimited.

That would give you an idea of how an F-15E would fly like, but there are a bunch of differences between the C and E that wouldn't be taken into account, in particular AoA sensitivity and the exact drag/weight nuances. Pretty close though, IMHO.

The FM and AoA limiting is a bit weird in the pitch, but if you reduce the instantaneous available pitch with various methods, it's a pretty cool flight model from a general feel standpoint. The landing is also suitably challenging. It's too bad their super hornet never had any yaw and otherwise kinda felt a little bit too much like flying a Winnebago.

The term "necroposting" was invented by a person with no social memory beyond a year. People with a similar hangup are those o.k. with the internet being transient vapor.

I always felt that sim was rushed into RTM too early, with parts of game being completed with some trade-offs, including FM. Some very good comparisons regarding FM vs EM charts were done early on release, on Combatsim.com and few of then available pilots generally appraised the overall look and feel.
It's shame that neither Steam or GoG see it as worthy piece of classic to be preserved. Seems like it remains buried in #%&*$# copyright mess between EA/Origin and former Janes Information Group.

DCS, on other hand, might give it another life in sims but those RAZBAM guys are really messed up. ED has really stepped up in class with Viper and Hornet, shoulder to shoulder with HB's Tomcat, but Mudhen is being put on hold for years.
Just imagine how a full DCS level module would look like in reenactment of 1st night in Persian Gulf map....nothing less than brutal.

The only so-so comforting fact is that ED is near pre-order for Longbow module, so if history repeats, we might get it after all...
