This is an extreme comparison of the possibilities in UAW160.
I ran a FW190 intercept first using the old map exe, and then with the new map exe, both at 1920x1080
The screenies were taken at the same point in the mission.

[Linked Image]
1920x1080 is bigger that the "Europe1.pic" so some areas are repeated.

[Linked Image]
The "Targmap.pic" used is a particularly large one and is experimental.
Each green dot is the centre of a land tile, and the tile is a 4.096km square.
In the old map version the B17s and the 190s are all in a "blob" on the French coast near Calais.

There is no Pilot zoom in the sense that your asking about in any version or type of the game.
You can't push a key to zoom in and out. Thats been a long lasting wish, but nobody can program it in.

Jel is talking about fixed maps in his builds of the game. He always plays on words to be misleading. Not sure why he feels he needs to do that. *shrug*

Your last two sentences were unnecessary and started the ball rolling. From here on it stopped being a cordial discussion and became ugly. Refrain from that in the future.

Work it out Mark smile
In my first reply I indicated that there is no zoom in the GoG version, thereby answering his question.
In my second reply I did not claim that there was zoom in UAW160. However, it was worth comparing the separation of aircraft in the new and old map versions of UAW160.
You admit that you do not really play EAW, so you have not realised the benefits that the new map version has brought to the guys who fly at GameRanger.
They really appreciate the difference that it has made in terms of navigating to the enemy aircraft.
The author of the thread has installed UAW160, so the information that I posted is relevant to him wink

My response is clearly for everyone else reading the public forum that's is not reading your half PMs on the topic.

That's just another situation that is engaged in for no apparent reason and ultimately proves confusing. Hence my response, I can't read minds nor PMs, or even know there is PMs on the topic.

If I choose to assist somebody via PMs so that a thread does not get hi-jacked then so be it.
I answered his original question, but you chose to answer it again, with the same answer as mine.
In addition, if I choose to promote the features of UAW160 when the opportunity arises, then I will do so.

I made a new and very large "TargMap.pic" with just a single colour background and no circles.

Flying an intercept mission I took these screenies:
[Linked Image]

This second screenie was taken when I switched to the map screen immediately after taking the first
[Linked Image]

You can compare the distances in the two pictures. By the time it was taken the 410 would be even less than 7000 feet away.

The map screen always puts your plane in the centre of the screen. In this case it is a 1024x768 extract of the whole picture which is actually 15356x7676.

This is a clear case of automatic zoom smile

Totally uncalled for provocation.

Shouldn't we be seeing some magenta colored text about now? Should have use the report button instead of fanning the flames.

I think that magenta colored text is done as a favor to you, rather than banning you as an alternative.

But back on topic;

I didn't realize again that 160 had automatic zoom. Do you have a video of it zooming in or an animated gif video of it doing so?
I tried to see it would happen on my install, but it doesn't do it. There is only one level of a static close up of the area. (I'm using UAW 160)

There is no video.
In the new map version of the 160 exe when you click on the map key you see the "TargMap.pic".
This picture can be any size but it contains the 640x320 tile-map stretched to fill the whole picture.
The one I used in this post is 15356 x 7676, but as my ini was set to 1024 x 768 the rectangle that I saw and posted is a 1024 x 768 section of the 15356 x 7676 area, with my aircraft icon in the exact centre when it was displayed.
I have not released this "TargMap.pic" as I am still experimenting with it. However, the original ETO "TargMap.pic" was much smaller, so the zoom effect is not as noticeable with the older version as there is less stretching.

This is with the original ETO "TargMap.pic" running at 1024 x 768 as before:
[Linked Image]
Note the enemy aircraft just in view, so some distance away

The map screen immediately after:
[Linked Image]
The icons are close together even though the planes are well separated frown

More provocation.

Wouldn’t have happened if you hadn’t unnecessarily inserted yourself into this. You should have used the report button.

Some unnecessary bitterness obviously.

Look it, Rotton got Wango to join in on the attack to me. Geez..

Jel, Yeah, the game has no in game pilot zoom with a key press, thats the point of my post, that you show in your screen shot.
but for the workaround to have to manually manipulate each area down must be a pain?

Anyhow, when there is a true in game pilot zoom key, that will be a great day!

Not an attack, an observation.

Some sims such as Strike fighters have several zoom levels and pressing a key accesses them.
UAW160 has one zoom level and pressing the "display pilot map key" accesses it.
The only difference between the two is the number of levels.

Why would a pilot want a zoom feature?
I can think of no reason other than wanting to see where the friendly and enemy planes are, and their bearings, with reasonable separation of their icons.

What on earth do you mean by this?
